Does anybody have any info on the current status of accomodations in Jimani. I have a doctor friend who is planning to volunteer at the Dominican Red Cross there and I may go as well. I was told they have a tent city and would provide foood etc, but was wondering if a hotel room would be possible to find.

Thanks

One of our convoys from SD to PAP was delayed at the Border a few days ago and they had to spend the night at the border.

They were not able to find accommodation in Jimani but did find a Cabana in a town prior to Jimani. The guys are in the field at Leogane today. When they return tonight I will post some more details of where they staid.

There was apost from some girls in Jimani, looking for medical help. They said that they had a place to sleep and food for volunteers...Just like one or two days after the quake...

I found a webpage that says nearby La Descubierta has 5 hotels, yet none want to pick up the phone.

Thanks for all of the input.

Look for accomodations in Neyba or Barahona, which is closer to Jimani than Santo Domingo and the daily conmute will be less of a burden.

Ok - they stayed at a town called Duverge approx. 30mins from Jimani at the Hotel Parisio del Parmas. Be warned it is decked out as a typical Cabana / "love nest". But hey - its a bed with a hot shower and all the CNN (and Porn) you could possibly not want.
