Hi,
On our trip round DR, we are in the Sosua area Feb 25th - March 3rd.

Does anyone know if there are any carnaval, parades or the like to enjoy... when and where?

Besides, we will be in DR for the first time on Feb 27th. How is this celebrated - and does it affect shopping hours etc.?

Cheers

Sosua not a big carnival town and little is done to publicly celebrate important days. Not sure if Feb 27 will be observed on the 27th or on a Friday or Monday to make a long weekend, as is often done.

On major holidays, banks and offices close. Supermarket in Sosua will be open as will bars and restaurants. Not much shopping in Sosua at any time, but on major holidays some places close and others stay open.

Don't expect much local color of the sort you are thinking about in Sosua during your visit.

There will be plenty of parties and maybe even a small parade or two, but I think Ken2 was referring to the massive affairs they have in other cities through the DR.

Sosua's revelries do not rival those other huge parades and festive frivolities. Just some merrymaking on a much smaller scale.
