To live in or buy food?

I have heard there are low rent apartments in the swampy part of PC

I don't need a budget of $1000, these places are around $30-$40 per night.

A few month ago, I was reading a review on another website about how to do PC on the cheap. From my understanding these are extremely basic places, nothing more than a bed in a room with a shower, toilet and maybe a fan.

Can find the review or remember the site now.

In the east, but not Punta Cana, you can rent cheapish rooms of that description near the beach in Bayahibe and in the Miches area.

Unfortunately the immediate area around the Punta Cana Airport is bare of non all inclusive hotels. Not too far away though in the Cabeza de Toro section of Bavaro is the Hotel Restaurante Naragua 809 688-4060. It's a small quaint hotel to stay at and is just walking distance from the public beach. I believe the cost is RD $900 a night. If you're goal is to backpack I assume you will not be taking in a taxi. In any case they will charge you through the roof. Your best option is to take public transportation. Right in front of the Punta Cana Airport you can pick up a public bus going towards Higuey. Get off at the Entrada de Bavaro and transfer to bus going into Cabeza de Toro. You will be dropped off right at the hotel. When in doubt just ask the cobrador or driver.

Hotel Naragua
Cabeza de Toro
(809) 468-3060

The phone number for the hotel has since changed. RD$1,000 a night. Pretty cheap for Punta Cana.
