Title is sort of the order of wonder....

On school vakay this week, I flew from Portland to Santiago on Jetblue. Decent price, good service.

In Santiago, I chose the Almirante. It was close to el Nacional, Claro pharmacy, and La Campagna bakery/cafe...it had a pool. These were the best factors. There was ProCigar having a conference there too. It had some pretty fancy cars out front!

It was Carnaval, and that was pretty cool.

While in town I visited the famous Hillbilly in his element:

Basically Knower of Everything Worth Knowing.

His son took me to Punta Rucia one day, to see what there was to see.

This was the road in. The road in, notably "improved". More tar in more spots.

One day HB and I went to Jarabacoa and beyond. We saw a tiny school, lots of coffee, cute kids and in general a lovely spot.

We also went to Paso Fino. They did a great barbeque. There was a room full of doctors and prancing horses. Let me tell you, a particular form of paradise. The beers were cold, the company excellent.

It was a great trip, repeat and rinse in April...

Thanks to El Gur? himself, Hillbilly--he's worth his weight in single malt....his son isn't too bad either....lucky to have such good people in this country.
