Supposedly the US has proposed the idea of creating a power grid for the Caribbean via underwater cable using Guyanas oil reserves and Colombia's existing power generation capacity.

It appears the Haitna earthquake was the impetus as nations are looking to get Haiti off it's dependence from charcoal.

Yep put that one in the same bucket with the Artificial island, the megaport of Manzanillo, the gazillion room investment in Bani, the gazillion room hotel to be built in Canoa, etc...

Will the US be OK with Dominicans hooking up to this grid for free? In typical Dominican fashion we should just say we're not interested and then hook up to the nearest underwater cable. Colombians would be wondering how come Haiti uses up so much electricity...

Its an interesting idea, however, knowing the cost of high capacity power line, to be running (safely) under water, would cost in the billions.
