I hate to say this but his life back in Russia may not be an improvement, especially since he lost lost some critical time there and his language skills.

I have heard first hand from 2 seperate couples who have both been to Russia to adopt babies that the orphanages there leave a lot to be desired.

Very tragic situation indeed.

What I would like to understand is why all the headlines over this child when there are already thousands of abandoned children on the streets here already. I don't mean to lesson the plight of this child, but what about the rest of the kids. I would just like to see this much attention for all of them.

I think it is more the fact that he is a displaced foreign national so nobody in the DR has jurisdiction over him, if I understand correctly??

I think it's because of all the press over the woman in Tennessee? Kentucky? who adopted a Russian boy and then put him on a plane back to Russia - alone because she said he had "problems". Bound to bring up all the adopted Russian stories..... Maybe it didn't make the news in DR, but they plastered it all over the place in Russia and USA.

Pobre nino. <a href="http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&lpver=3&ref=11" target="_blank"><img src="http://content.sweetim.com/sim/cpie/emoticons/000203F6.gif" border=0 ></a>

I remember years ago there was a similar case where an American left this kid in Boca Chica. The kid basically just grew up on the beach with help from the prostitutes, hustlers, etc...and eventually someone figured out what happened with him and took him to the Consulate where he got a new passport and sent back to The US even though by then he hardly remembered The US.

This Russian kid has amazing bad luck...

"He has problems with the Russian language," Savin said, adding that by now the boy is used to living in the tropics.

Russia and the DR have to meet half way and send the kid to CUBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know a bit about this business in Russia.

Adoptions in Russia are for the most part just another flesh-peddling scheme for many nefarious individuals. Many of these 'orphans" come from abused, dysfunctional families and many of these poor discarded children are born with all manner of undiagnosed issues-fetal alcohol syndrome, learning disorders, behavior management issues-you name it. It runs the gamut.

Very common to see young, pregnant, poor Russians females drinking, smoking and injecting drugs while still out on the streets turning tricks.

And the average Russian/Eastern European orphanage will give a comparable developing nation a run for it's money in terms of squalor and neglect.

The farther east one travels in Europe, the cheaper life is.

that's just how it is. And these orphanages do not have the resources to even diagnose these issues much less treat them. I'm in no way advocating these children being left in the streets, but many foreign parents desperate to adopt a child get taken in by the desperate straits these children are in and don't really understand what they're in for when you take in a child with such problems as I've described above.
