Probably to protect the company legally.

Like the notice "I will no longer be responsible for the debts of X"

How would you enforce a cease and desist in this country? The police? The sheriff? I think it would be a waste of legal fees to try. It's best just to post a notice that they are not affiliated with you.

Why the notice, would they not just stop them from using the name with a cease-and-desist?

If the main office has the right to the "Coldwell Banker" name here in the DR I'm sure they can sue the local office to have their name removed from the business. However, it may take some time. Then too, things can be complicated depending on how much the Sosua owners are vested in the main company.

Maybe Jens the owner sold his real estate business, contacts, office etc and got out of the Coldwell Banker franchise? Maybe this is a legitimate and standard practice posting by Coldwell Banker?

Maybe you should ask the source, rather than speculating????

It sounds like a legitimate and standard posting by Coldwell Banker. According to the CB website, they have only 3 offices in the Dominican Republic. One in Rio San Juan, one in Las Terrenas, and one in Santo Domingo.

Coldwell Banker in Sosua - Update 12th December 2010

As this thread reported there was an advert in Listin Diario stating that Coldwell Banker North Coast in Sosua was not in operation and was no longer a Coldwell Banker franchise also somebody else reported that the office was now closed.
As an update to this we can confirm there was a mutual termination of the franchise agreement between the owner and Coldwell Banker.
Coldwell Banker has now issued at new contract for the North Coast to Amber Guardian who are now known as Coldwell Banker Amber Coast Realty.
