My family and I would like to open a dress rental business in Santo Domingo. The business would specialize in wedding dresses, flower girl dresses, braidsmaid dresses, quinceanera, evening gowns, etc. The inventory would consist of mainly designer name dresses and high end brands, but we would also custom make our own. My mother, who is an experienced dressed dress designer, maker, and retailor of over 30 years, recently went to DR to do research and found all the shops she visited to be either small, not very stylish, out of the way, lacking variety, or all of the above. We're fully aware that any Dominican with the resources would much rather buy a dress abroad than rent one but we'd still like to keep our business as high end as possible.
My questions are
1) Where is a business like this best located?
In a mall?
In a plaza?
Naco?
Piantini?
Malecon?
Somewhere else?
Why?
2) What's a ball park figure for rent? Bare in mind we'd be showcasing no less than 400 dresses, would need a reception area within the shop, changing room/s, and 24 hr. security.
3) What permits would we need? What would taxes look like?
4) What trouble could we run into?
5) Did I miss anything?
