The of bass box "Marimba". Yes 30 years ago here in DR all merengue tipico bands used to play one of those.
This was a heavy instrument replaced for the electric bass guitar.

The electric bass is the foundation of Bachata these days - it plays the "kick-drum" role.
Was there any Bachata as we know it before the electric bass?

I guess you should know ;)

I would say 60's and 70's way before the 80's he was very popular then. He was from Nagua, where most of the Merengue tipico players come from.

Good listening music. I wish more of this style would become popular as Bachata 95% of the time is driving me bloody crazy.

Guitarra, maracas, Tubadoras y timbales.

A lo contrario no me siento amargado despues de escuchar una muscia tan buena como esta. Este es una forma de balladaverdad? Mi parece similar a la balada tipica cubana de esa epoca.
