Tollbooth, Santiago: It's on Fire!
Wow, I hope nobody has to drive to Santo Domingo today. That should mess up the traffic really good.
No big surprise if you see how some trucks don't even reduce (high) speed when nearing the toll booth.
Lucky that there are no casualties.

That piaje is unused. No one collects any money or works there. I don't know why it was even built in the first place.
I know its not in use so Dominican "rules" say then that you can race through it, despite the concrete blocks who narrow the highway at the toll booth.

In the States they build Expressways and put in Toll Booths.
Here they build Toll Booths to put on existing Expressways.
The roadway has been there for many years, the politicians just decided to make it a toll road to take in extra money. Somehow it fell out of favor, perhaps because of the unions.

It was built for the purpose all toll booth are built, tax drivers. Then the city government of La Vega began to oppose it alleging that it would adversely affect daily "commuters" from LV to STI and vice versa. They did quite a job at keeping the thing closed.
It was the nicest toll booth in the country. Oh well... :smoke:
Just heard about a truck accident at the unused "tollbooth" on the autopista approaching Santiago from the south. No word on injuries.

Nop, its actually northbound lanes (going to santiago from santo domingo). The effected area is destroyed and the roof is burnt to skeleton. the structure would have to be torn down and rebuilt.
