BEST EVER

AAAS had the extreme pleasure of a visit by U.S. veterinarian Dr. Phil Schoenborn of Mukwonago, Wisconsin, and his entire staff. Dr. Schoenborn closed his office in order to be able to support a spay/neuter clinic held at the Los Charamicos Firehouse Friday and Saturday, September 17th and 18th. The group included three very experienced veterinarians and seven skilled assistants. More than 60 dogs/cats were spayed/neutered and vaccinated over the two days, an amazing achievement. They even neutered the hotel?s cat (with the owner?s permission, of course) right at the hotel and had their eye on an unneutered male at Parada El Choco Restaurant, where many of our volunteers joined the team for a thank-you dinner on Monday night. Dr. Schoenborn?s team was also able to experience some of our local culture and great beaches on the North Coast while they were here. We hope they will be able to join us again in the not too distant future!

Special thanks to all who volunteered. Without you this very successful operative would not have been possible. The local community was especially supportive and best of all we helped improve the lives of all the animals that were brought to us. We need to run more of these clinics as they are the most effective method to strengthen relations within the community and help assure that people know they have an option when it comes to the care of their animals.

The visiting vet team paid all their own travel and accommodation expenses. AAAS covered food and refreshments for both work days, transportation and all supplies needed. Total costs were approximately $700 US dollars. We could certainly use some financial assistance so we can cover costs and increase the number of these community based operatives in the future.

Donations can be made at the clinic, thru our website Asociacin De Amigos Por Los Animales De Sosa, Inc., or on Facebook Dogs and Cats of the Dominican Republic. Please designate where you would like us to use your donation and tax receipts are available for the Dominican Republic and the United States.

Thank you for your continued help and support.
