The choice is between publicos and guaguas. Publicos are cars with a blue box on the top. They take 6 passengers, 4 in back and 2 in front with driver. The price from Cabarete to Sosua is RD$25.
Guaguas are vans. They take as many passengers as they can possibly squeeze in, including some standing the open door. Their price from Cabarete to Sosua is RD$20.
These prices are until 6 pm. RD$5 additional after 6 pm. After 6, the color of the box on the publicos changes.
To get either one, stand along the side of the road on the side of the traffic going toward Sosua and flag them down as they come along. They pickup and drop off wherever there is a person wanting a ride or wanting to get off.
Sometimes they are full, but there will be others coming along soon. They are moving all the time and there is no set schedule.
