Day before yesterday I traveled to El Otro Lado, a community across the river Irab?n past Las Lomas de Azua. My purpose was to visit a sick old man at the insistence of a neighbor. When I got there I found all the trappings of a funeral, except that the deceased was still alive, and conscious. But that's another story....
I noticed no Haitians in sight. I asked, and was told that the authorities had paid them a visit recently, and asked them courteously to leave. It's worth mentioning that many locals had moved to La Cabullita, leaving many houses vacant, a situation that was exploited by the Haitians. Actually, the locals had been hospitable to the Haitians. As it turned out, all the Haitians left at the behest of outside authorities.
