If you visit Santo Domingo, and you love nature and you are environmentally conscious, you should visit El Cachon de La Rubia. You should see what a great project is being carried out there. It is a system of water that streams from the underground and feeds the Ozama River. It is located in Santo Domingo Este, in Cancino, not far from the Mega Centro shopping mall. I live near it, and I enjoy going there in the afternoons for a swim. You can find lots of pictures and information online about it. The water spurts out naturally from the roots of huge ?javilla? trees. It?s so clean and natural!
This site was restored a couple of years ago by the Ministry of Environment. They are very involved with its maintenance. They planted trees and are doing a good job keeping it clean. It has received a lot of media coverage in local Dominican TV and the papers.
I feel that it could be worth the trip for some of you visiting La Capital.
