hello guys,

i just would like to ask if any of you guys have had a bad experience in their or heard of some. almost like a scam. Those of you who know the casino will know that american guy with mustash who has his own table, with that roullete type game.

well my friend lost a lot of money on it, we heard about lots of other people who lost big money on it and there is a certain trend to the results that makes me and other local people wonder.

when he said he played the game to local expats they laughed at him and said what a sucker. its a no win game. this combined with the murky goings on with the casino makes me think its a very shifty casino.

anyone have similar stories?

thanks in advance

This says everything to me, the silence is deafening and quite frankly out of fear. If locals in the bar can relay stories of scams im sure people here could also. Quite frankly after what happened to that lawyer Art Tarlow (R.I.P) I dont blame people for not wanting to reply to the thread.

Sosua Casino, all I can recomend people is stay well clear and warn any visitors to do the same, trust me.

I am not familar in particular with Sosua Bay Casino nor am I familar with the link you posted. I am familar with other casinos on the island. The roullete type games are owned and run totally seperate from the casino's business that they are in and the casinos have no affiliation with them. These scams have been going on for many years on the island.Unfortunately some tourists are not aware of these scams and they learn the hard way.

Correct, but if the Casino has it that means they are getting a piece of the scam. And for the record NO ONE EVER WINS AT THIS GAME. It is a "Carnival Game", if you know what that means.

I understand that the casino gets a piece of the $$ SKY but buy having it seperate makes them not responsible for the legal issues?
I am familar with what a Carnival Game is also.

Dulce & SKY:

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Dulce, yes unfortunately some tourists learn the hard way. Very true and unfortunate, he lost $11,000 and was held imprisoned practually by the casino thugs until money arrived from the US. It ruined his trip and he returned after 3 days of a 10 day trip. I guess its a 'you gambles, you lost' scenario but still so unjust to not know about these scams. He is back down to zero now.

SKY, yes i can concur and believe that nobody ever wins at these horrible scams. DR needs a gaming regulatory body but that would not be high on any agenda as long as the casinos pay fee, taxes etc. ##

Thanks again

I know the guy you are referring to. He looks like he could be a cast member on The Addams family. I have been to the casino, and I went with several friends. I personally never gambled there and he tried to lure me in with his scam and sham of a game. After about 30 seconds of listening to this guy I told him I wasn't interested. He made some sarcastic remark when I walked about about "go and make some money on the slots." I just ignored him.

"Hoping to win" and having NO CHANCE to win are totally different.

Not only this is a scam in this casino...

I live in Santiago and I frequently play Black Jack (mostly at the Matum Diamond Casino). Last saturday, I went for the second time to Sosua Bay Casino...
The 1st time, in January, I had the feeling that there was something strange, as almost no monkeys appeared in the 6 packs deck during more than one hour. 6 packs are 72 monkeys + 24 "10" and I started to count the cards... from these, only 30 cards with a value of ten went out (monkeys and 10 all together). The other supposingly remained in the deck... more than 8 times!!!

Last saturday, exactly the same occured. We were 4 people playing at the table for about one and a half hour and all had the same feeling. An American guy even started to count the cards and realized that there was almost no "K" going out in any deck (there are 24 Kings in the game and only 2 or 3 went out. We asked to change the cards and they refused.
I am convinced they quit 36 or 40 cards (mostly "K") from the decks (nobody saw when they spread the cards), so that the dealer wins easier.
Some casino do that and call this "Crazy Black Jack", but they explain everything to the gamblers. Here they swore all the cards were in, which was obviously not the case.

Avoid this place as much as you can, they are thieves!!!

That's not the only casino where tourists are scammed - our daughter and her husband lost about $5000USD at the Hamaca Casino in Boca Chica a couple of years ago. Big scam and long story. We were in DR at the time, and my husband [casino guy himself] called a close friend who is a [legit] casino manager in SD to talk to him about it - and it seems they weren't the only victims. They weren't permitted to leave the casino without paying up, they put it on a credit card. To add insult to injury, a week later, after they were home, the casino tried to put through another $5000 charge on the same card. And yes, they were told that the casino is a concession, not owned or operated by the Hamaca. And yes, the casino dealer was American, to make customers 'comfortable'.

The guy that ran SUPERKENO @ The Old Breezes fits that description!

AVOID anything progressive that gives you a free play, simply stay away from any game you have not played before.

One rule stay away from casinos in the DR find alternative options to enjoy your money on. In the DR there are no shortage of options use your imagination you might luck out and leave the island with some cash in your pocket!!!

Confused, how do you lose $5000 without putting the money up first? Do they give credit?

It is a SCAM, just stay away from this...they entice you with a "free first play", then you put up a credit card after they assure you your next spin is going to be the winner! Then they offer you free immitation White Castle!
