Any concern over malaria or dengue fever?

Hi
My girlfriend and I will be travelling the last week of February. Depending on where you research on the web, I get conflicting reports about dengue fever and taking malaria pills(we aren't).
Have there been any confirmed reports of either dengue or malaria in the north east?

Hi:

I live in Las Terrenas for about half the year and in the US the other half. I have been bitten by mosquitoes in the DR and have never had any problems other than the bites being very itchy. If you are here for a week or two and staying in decent accommodations I don't think this is a concern.

On Samana Malaria isn?t a problem. The intensity of dengue epedemies in the RD changes from year to year - depending on the rain. Last year I heard about 2 cases of dengue in Las Galeras.
