Help re: visa for a minor

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone as had any experience applying for a visitors visa for a minor and being successful? I have a godson over there (he will be 2 in September) and I am wanting to have him come visit me here for the summer, the last two weeks in August. Obviously we will support him here and provide whatever he needs. Does anyone know the time length it takes for a visitors visa application to be processed? Thanks

Sorry, I probably should have mentioned that. He'd be coming to Canada, from Puerto Plata.

Applications are processed quickly...most are saying same day or next day response.

Do we apply via the canadian immigration website for a visitors visa or can it also be done in the Dominican? We have the church papers claiming me as his godmother, lots of photos, financial proof, etc. Just wondering the best way to do this? His passport is being processed right now.

Applications are submitted in Santo Domingo.

Candy have you read the cic website or the application guide?

Details are very specific on how/where to apply.
