a lil u.s. tax help please...

i was married in october.i'm filling my taxes here in the states.we are awaiting my wife's kids birth certificates from la junta in santo domingo in order to start the visa process for all of them.my question is i'm married but i dont have a ss # for my wife.if i send a letter of explaination and the marriage certificate could i claim my wife? i'm not worried about the kids to claim at this time.i would just like to know if anyone has tryed or done this with success?

You can not get an SSN# unless your wife has a valid US immigration status.

However, you can get a TIN (taxpayer identification number) and use that.
