Marry a DR woman, spend winters there?

Hi there,

I loathe Canadian winters and am looking to cook up a way in which I can winter in the DR. My work, as humble as it is, allows for that flexibility. I speak English (obviously!), French and a fair amount of Spanish, with the desire to learn more. I'm a thirty-something Canadian man. I have a teaching degree and experience, and would consider teaching ESL for those three months if that option was available, but am open to other possibilities such as getting into business, volunteering, etc.

What I am wondering is if you think it is realistic for me to be able to do this:

Spend three months a year in the DR. Meet an honest DR woman who would come on board with me and be willing to do the 9 months in Canada, 3 months in the DR thing every year, perhaps until school-aged children enter the picture, and then choose either the DR or Canada for schooling. The idea would be to keep a close relationship with both the DR and Canada.

Assuming I have the necessary drive to make things happen on my end, do you think this is feasible and realistic?

Gracias.

What is wrong with being 30 man? I will be celebrating my sweet 30 cumpleanos in 3 months...so I would like to know in advance what's wrong with being 30... (so I can eventually avoid that somehow...maybe jumping straight over to 40, or something...)

Being 30 is not surprisingly part of life if you make it to 31, being 30 is great, I was 30 for a whole year once.
Being 30 and going on a wife shopping trip is frinkin sad and desperate, I don't care how big your model train collection is, how many birds you have spotted, how many pairs of beige chino shorts or chunky multi strapped Velcro sandals you have, you can not be that desperate as to plan a trip with the intention of trapping s wife, destined fir abuse and disaster. At 70 then you can be a bit more sure you are not going to meet someone naturally, great, book a trip to Thailand, or even Republic, shop away. At 30 you should not be on wife safari.

Yeah that is embarrassing. :surprised

Got a hooker pregnant, now she has turned really nasty
OK, so you have years of experience in DR. After time you decide to take a year out and rent an apartment and rather than rent various hookers decide to take a good one and keep her on full time in a sort of unspoken agreement.
She gets pregnant, you have left the country by the time you find out. The math add up and it is your child, you return to look after them and things are not quite the same. She decides to start manipulation whenever you mention separating, starts claiming you are aggressive and violent, infact even threats to get you in trouble with the police if you threaten to leave her.
Things become unworkable, now you are miserable in your own home, you ask her to go back home, she won't and the cycle starts again.
You want out but are really worried about her and her accusations. You would like the child but feel the chances you will get the child are slim as it is still young.
How the hell do you work this out with the kind of mentality of the average Dominican used to be hooker. You can't even stand the person you are supporting and living with, she makes you feel sick just being around her.
Oh and she claims she is pregnant again, and you had a vasectomy 3 days before returning.
You did well, I have been supporting and living with a women I thought loved me, we had a child together (or so I thought) , I found out this week that she has had a Dominican other for the entire two years, along with the child I have been supporting all this time and living with, probaly not mine after all.

I don't talk about it as I should know better after all the years I've invested in the Republic and money I've invested in tryinf to make this family work.

I feel a bit stupid, infact alot stupid.

I've flown back to the UK to try to deal with this. I'm the registered father and think my life can only get more complicated.

Been there, done it, and still fell for it like a novice. 7 years experience I should know better!!!!

Well done!!

Anastacio, I got you. First I thought you meant to say..."30, you missed the train". Now I understand you actually meant "the train hasn't arrived yet".

Those are his quotes and they are on the board for all to see.
Nothing nasty about pointing out a pot calling a kettle black. :tired:

Yip, sad, fkcud up and here to advise from experience, no matter what you been through and no matter where you are now, marrying is not the answer. I'm speaking from experience and so my words do have a kinda form stronger than those who just waffle off.
But few end up as lucky or in such an unique position as I have been through.

To be frank this is a good idea...if you plan on spending time in the DR, and since you planned on teaching English..I am sure that will open doors for you to meet a local CLEAN girls...my only suggesting is avoid street girls....also you might want avoid living in the inner cities...hope that help....

I am a 30 something morena who loves skying (I learned growing up in Europe)

I am seriously thinking about marrying a Canadian man and spending my winter there, so that I have access to the beautiful slopes your country has to offer.

I speak English, French and I am nearly fluent in Spanish. My plans would be to spend my winter in Canada and even learn to snowboard.

Assuming I have the necessary drive to make things happen on my end, do you think this is feasible and realistic?

Gracias
Merci
Thank you

:bunny: :cheeky:

Rice&Beans: where can I get a picture of a hot Canadian snowboarder to insert at the end of my post? ;)

Marry DR woman

Hi:

As you can see the jokers are at it again and with some reason for it. If you know anything about life in the DR it is that relationships with local women are complicated. That complication being you. This is far from North America and the woman here have different dreams and priorities. You could easily develop a quick, down and dirty relationship with someone here, if you are willing to believe the info you see on the internet, meet her and then do the following:

Marry her
Marry her family
Marry her extended family
provide for her
provide for her family
provide for her extended family
Go back to Canada for the 9 months by yourself
LEAVE YOUR VISA OR MASTER CARD WITH HER
La Republica de Dominicana NO PROBLEMA

What you are proposing is dicey at best

Come here for 1-3 months. Get acclimated to what life would be like here and then decide if what you thought before is still workable.

I live in Las Terrenas on the Samana Peninsula. There is a large French population of over 2000-3000 people. French, Spanish and English are widely spoken here. It is a nice beach community in a real world setting. You will experience life in a Dominican community with European influences. Very unique for the DR.
