....and it's costing me a fortune!
I've never signed up for a data package of any kind for my iPhone. I just have a pre-paid SIM card from Claro that I top-up every so often. I rarely make phone calls so the minutes usually expire before I use them up. A 100 peso top-up will reactivate the minutes. So just a few days ago I had about 1200 pesos balance on my iPhone. Today my balance is a couple of pesos. Turns out I'm now getting 3G internet on my phone. And they are charging outrageous rates. I didn't even realize that I was using 3G. I'm typically within range of Wi-Fi but last night while at the San Juan plaza in Bavaro I must not have been connected and was using 3G. Unfortunately I was using Google Earth and other data intensive stuff. So now I'm out about US$30. My partner's 1st gen iPhone is also suddenly getting GPRS/Edge internet access as well.
I've turned off the cellular data on our phones so we won't get charged anymore but thought I'd put this out there in case anyone else gets burned.
