I've only seen one. It used bottled water. Most people recommend against using tap water for anything you will consume.

I think it is quite easy to connect bottled water to it - all the fridges I have seen with icemakers had bottled water connected.

What is in the water that they recommend against drinking? is it bacteria related, or mineral related? Have always been curious about this.

There are all sorts of nasty bugs in the water here.

we have a fridge with water dispenser and ice maker. it is connected to a large water bottle and has a simple pump. works well. in addition the water is filtered by the fridge too.

We use the flo Jet system and we are very happy with it. You can get it online for about $115 but then you have to have someone bring it down from the states or Canada for you.
