I hear reports of Lionfish here in the Dominican Republic.
There is at least one project to control them.
Has anyone eaten them?

It seems to be growing problem - in many areas of the DR.

Controlling lionfish in La Caleta marine reserve, the Dominican Republic
April 11th, 2011
Reef Check Dominica Republic is undertaking to control lionfish in La Caleta National Marine Park:

In English:
This project aims to support and promote lionfish control through human consumption. Until local fish learn to eat them, humans can be a key means of control to save populations of local fish from devastation. Your support will provide fishers and scuba divers with adequate training and appropriate equipment, sensitization, and most importantly an economic incentive for much-needed lionfish control.
?
The Reef Check DR Foundation has a programme of education, control and alternative use of lionfish in La Caleta National Marine Park. For more information write to info@reefcheckdr.org or call 809-227-4409.

Other threads have mentioned lionfish.
e.g.

Is there interest in a lionfish thread: reef conservation, sightings, catching, eating?

there was slight interest last time it was mentioned, but unless they start taking over the deckchairs on the beach its not really a problem

Other fish will never "learn to eat them". I am more than a little suspicious of these California based do gooder orgs. Often they are a means of making money through donations and providing a lucrative income for marine biologists. Until proven different these organizations are wolves in sheeps clothing. Exactly how are they controlling the Lionfish. Never saw anyone control fish. People yes!! Other than spearing them out one by one, exactly what do they plan to do??? Run long studies of the problem? Yes I have eaten them in the Bahamas where they are rampant. Taste just fine, tricky to clean. The Dominican are too busy trying to afford food and gas for their motos to be worried about the Lionfish invasion.

They are becoming a problem here in the Florida Keys. So much so that they have an underwater tournament every year to see you can catch the most. They also have a cook book out with recipies for them and are said to be great eating. Never tried one though.
