I have seen some posts on this subject but they are quite old...

Currently in Bavaro, I am looking to buy a pasola. Where do I go?

Thank you!

There are 2 for sale at the small plaza beside the turn off for Jarabacoa with the italian on the corner. There is a travel agent selling them, they have been company vehicles for 2 years and by all counts are good machines. Expect to pay around 12,000$RD. They are advertised for around 15,000RD$ I think, but they just want rid of them to make room for new stuff so I'd expect they will accept anything within reason, if you are pretty try 10,000RD$. I had an identical bike and they are a fast 125 racing line, really nippy. If you drive by, you will notice the internet cafe and the bookies on the left, with the small colmado in the corner, the agent is not obvious but he is in the middle of these.

Finding life without wheels there pretty nasty ah? lol. Suicide or transport, only two ways to go in Bavaro!!

Visit any motorprestamo / moto dealer. they sell both motorcycles and passolas. Your best bet is to go to Higuey, you will get cheaper prices.

Wow! I didn't expect such detailed answers! I will try to go there this afternoon.

Life without a motor is impossible in this heat!!

Thanks

Went by the travel agency off the Bibijagua turn off (I am assuming this is what you meant!) and they sell the pasola for 20K...

You are joking, is the sign up still, they are offered at RD$15,000 each pay RD13,000 max. You must have mug written all over you. I even talked with the guy and he told me he wasn't expecting more, this was a while ago. I'd advise you to go in with the cash, tell him it is all you have RD$13,000. He can't put the price up in reality. Seriously, are you confident and able to hustle a bit, because that is crazy, there must be something about you that makes you seem very new and unaware of what you are doing.

Just tell your dominican friend you can't spend anything over 15K for a new pasola.

I actually didn't go myself but sent my dominican friend...
Maybe I'll go see for myself!

Hmmm, your Dominican friend? how long have you known your dominican friend? It is not normal for someone to advertise something for sale and put the price up as the time passes. Maybe you should be doing these things yourself to avoid paying friendship tax!
Just a thought!!

I also have the same suspicions that your "friend" was trying to earn a $5,000 RD commission on that sale. It happens all the time.

I have a JMStar 150cc scooter for sale right now, asking RD $29,900 for it. I am in Sosua if you would like to come see it. Runs great, and has 3,000 miles on it. Yellow and Black.

Your "Dominican friend" sees himself making 7000. Its normal, after all you are rich and he is poor so a little bit will not hurt you.

Get a passola with the largest diameter wheels as possible. The small wheeled passolas are VERY unstable on the bad Dominican streets.

AND WEAR A HELMET*!

* preferably a full face helmet with a good face shield. Based on actual crash statistics, a full face protects 100% of your head/face, a 3/4 protects 50%, a beanie only 39%. I should post a pic of a rider with his jaw ground away for effect.
