Hi everyone I have a question about traveling from santo domingo to las Terrenas.. So here it goes....

I am ariving at SDQ in the afternoon of july 5th. Since I Have never been to the DR so we were going to spend the night and take the bus to Las Terrenas first thing in the morning.

Does anyone know of a good cheap hotel to stay at for the night???

We are taking Caribe tours to Sanchez in the morning, but their website is in spanish which i can only kinda read and nowhere does it say where the bus picks up at in santo domingo..

Does anyone know where Caribe tours picks up in santo domingo for the trip to sanchez?? I would prefer a hotel near the pickup site..
I have read other posts and i think we can figure out how to take a guagua or a cab from sanchez to las terrenas .
thanks for reading, any suggestions would help..

Arriving in the afternoon is a bummer since the last bus leaves at 4:30 p.m. Here's the link to the schedule:

Caribe Tours | VIAJES

I usually stay a few blocks away at the Barcelo Gran Lina but that costs about USD 90 per night. It has two restaurants, pool, casino. I don't know your definition of cheap hotel. Every cab driver or motochoncho driver knows where Caribe tours terminal is. Here's a link to the map:

I would recommend Hotel Aida, Conde con Espaillat. Clean and quiet and only US $35 a night.
Taxi to Caribe Tours was only 250 pesos last year.
Caribe Tours does not go into Las Terrenas. But there are busses that run from Sto Domingo to Las Terrenas.
Last Year I went to Samana City with Caribe Tours then paid US$50 to get to Las Terenas. In Las Terenas i found a bus to Santo Domingo for 260 Pesos. Ask when you are at the hotel. I wish I had asked.
Enjoy! I did.

Hi:

I live in Las Terrenas. Here is a better idea. There is a smaller bus that goes from Santo Domingo all the way to Las Terrenas 5 times a day, 5AM, 7Am, 9AM, 2PM and 3:30PM. It is called Transporte Las Terrenas, 1-809-687,1470(Santo Domingo). This will cost you about $10.00US. If you are waiting until the next morning to go to Las Terrenas stay at the Quality Inn which is about 15 minutes from the Airport. From the Quality Inn have a taxi driver take you to the bus kioskk located at the entrance to the new highway north to Samana. This will cost you about $30.00US. While on route have the taxi driver call the bus phone number and tell them you need to be picked up at the entrance to the new highway. The bus will stop and pick you up and about 3 hrs.(max) later you will be in Las Terrenas. This will be quicker and a lot cheaper and just as comfortable. The bus will drop you off down in the tourist sector of Las Terrenas across from El Paseo Plaza. If you need any other info send me a private message.

Check out the Millenium Hotel in SD...walking distance from Caribe bus station, about $35 a night when I was there Christmas 2009. Steve's suggestion of the bus north is excellent.

This is absolutely the best way to get to Las Terrenas from SD.

Note that the times that the buses leave SD now
are
8 30,9:30,11,1:40 and 3

do not know if this is change or if perhaps LT Steve posted the times for leaving from LT

Note that the buses from SD often leave ahead of schedule if the bus is full... which it usually is on Fridays and Saturdays.. so best to plan for that.

Annie! How can you recommend the above plan (from LTSteve) that includes a $30 taxi ride of about a MILE from Quality Inn to the highway entrance? Plus, Quality Inn is over $120 US! Just askin'!!:cheeky:

For $30 you can get a taxi to the capitol from SDQ, spend the night at an inexpensive hotel in the colonial zone, and grab a taxis to Transportes Las Terrenas in the morning. That's how I do it. I oftentimes spend a day or two in the capitol before heading to LT.

You can also walk, if you have not too much loggage to the main highway and hail a gagua to Boca Chica or take a Motor Concho. Also taxi direct to BC or main road. When in BC find hotel for 25-40$. Next morning gagua to turn off or motor concho, taxi. Reserve the seat by telephoning from BC. BC has pleasant restaurants by the beach. You could stay at Rolling Stone b & b on the beach but book beforehand. Shorter travel than to the capital and overall cost should be much less.

because you are coming in from NYC and have already had a really stressful day and only have one week to spend here. So the first night, well. the airport hotel is a good stop. Clean. Orgnaized. Air Conditioned. Reading lights. Mattress pads. Toilet seats.

figure that it is going to cost you at least one hundred bucks a day in LAS TERRENAS

which is the JEWEL./. we agree on that

so that is what I would recommend for folks who are just coming for the beach.

last flight in from NYC or DC or whereever

most folks are lucky to get a week off. And the more affluent you are, the less time you usually have.

A weekend in LT is out of the reach of most of my university educated and employed friends here in the Capital.
