If you like Paella, they have a nice meat Pailla at El Pulpo Cojo It is right on the beach and a very nice restaurant. But like most of the restaurants here they do have a lot of seafood, but the beef Paella is very good. If you do go make sure you don't get the seafood Paella. i

Tony romas next to hard rock cafe does nice food, and Acqua on the beach in bibijagua does a lovely evening romantic on the beach bbq, and other good stuff, seafood isn't the main attraction in either.

On the last post, with a list of restaurants. The only one I would recommend on that list I believe is closed. That would be the Sittilng Bull Steakhouse. That one is next to the restaurant I recommended before. But last time I was there it was closed.

The others on that list are not really good for an anniversary, nor are the locations much to brag about.

I'm sorry, I thought you wrote you liked spicy! Please disregard some of my suggestions.

Sitting Bull is closed? :( I haven't passed by in awhile. I would be sad if that were true.

What about Jellyfish? You don't have to order seafood. Great ambience on the beach. You can see their menu here: Jellyfish Restaurant | Bavaro, Punta Cana | Restaurant, Bar, Lounge, Weddings, Events

Jellyfish is very nice. I just don't know how the meat is there. I like the place.

Acentos Bistro in Punta Cana Village has meaty choices. Mediterranean style cuisine - highly recommended.

Outside In Bar & Restaurant This one would be my favorite for steak. They have a great Filet Mignon there, but it is not on the beach. I would assume you would want a place on the beach for an anniversary celebrated in the DR.

If not, go here, you cannot go wrong with the steak. Also the owner is from Holland and he does all the cooking.

It is in El Corcito, past the turn towards the Palma R. Mall.

Beachside/waterfront:

Juanillo and Mitre in Cap Cana
Cocoloba and La Yola in Punta Cana

Inland, in Punta Cana Village is the Portuguese restaurant, recently remodelled and renamed O'Porto.

Capt. Cooks is a great restaurant for fresh fish and lobster. But for you forget it. Right on the beach, I love the place, but no meat.

Jellyfish is a big step up from Captain Cook - a much classier restaurant.

Yes it is. But what I like about Capt. Cooks is you can pick the fish you want, they weigh it and cook it the way you want it. Jellyfish is a much nicer atmosphere, but still a conventional restaurant.

Lot's of great suggestions above. I'll second La Yola for excellent cuisine and romantic atmosphere. And I'll add Faith at Farallon Cap Cana - their steaks and meat dishes are excellent. It's on a cliff 265ft above sea level with great views over Cap Cana. For reservations call 809-469-7450.

Is Farallon open? We were up there a couple of weeks ago and the security guys said it was reopening soon but didn't give us a date.

I agree with SKY on the Outside In Bar & Restaurant. I stopped in for dinner last night and it was simply outstanding. I'll definitely be a repeat customer.

Jellyfish is a great choice. Just back from a week in P.C. and went to Jelly twice. Capt'n Cook once. Had never been to either before. Both are "tourist" places, after all P.C. IS a tourist area, but Jelly is like a "normal" nice restaurant in the U.S.... except it sits on a beautiful beach. Capt'n sits on the beach too, but is much more a tourist "experience" -- even starting with the parking -- a random guy at the parking lot was going to escort us into Capt'n and "introduce" us to best person to wait on us, I politely declined with a friendly but firm "gracias, no". We were then seated at a table, drink orders taken, then another waiter came to take the drink orders again... then a guy "Rafael" dressed in shorts, t-shirt, sneakers, came and asked if our drink order was taken (third time, lol) ... introduced himself as the Maitre-d, told us to let him know if we needed anything. He did seem to be in charge at some level, but he also runs the adjacent gift shop... walks around with a sky high stack of cigar boxes trying to sell them, does visit the tables to socialize and check to make sure everything is good, and takes pics of you at your table which he will then make into a label for your very own brand on a bottle of Mamajuana.. for $25.. LOL. My wife ordered what the menu called "scallops, house style", but got "veal scallopini" - which tasted OK, but a disappointment since she wanted sea food. Still not sure if the translation problem was on the menu or by the waiter... but she did point to the item on the menu. I offered to send it back for her, but she declined. My Mahi-Mahi fillet was good though. Jellyfish's food was excellent all the way around, (a definite step above Captn Cook's) with some interesting twists. They have meat selections, but we only ordered sea food and chicken dishes. The sea bass with passion fruit/ginger sauce was excellent. Jelly's prices are a little high ... but actually the entres are a little less than what you'd expect given the quality and setting, ball park guess is an average of about $20 / includes one side. It's the appetizers and salads that are pretty pricey and boost the bill, they ARE however, excellent (the "roasted vegetable salad" was actually a hot dish of layered veggies topped with cheese... more like a small entre than a salad or appetizer, and the calimari might have been the best I ever had). Jelly pours a generous glass of very nice house wine for a very reasonable price. Captain Cook's prices were very reasonable for a tourist place, and includes a little appetizer of fried potatoes and cabbage salad (happily refilled if you want), sides, along with a small plate of fruit for dessert and a little Mamajuana to finish the meal -- $38 -- cheap. Bottom line - two very different experiences, each enjoyable in their own ways. Capt'n is cheap, fun, touristy, quirky... Kafkaesque, (my new favorite description of many things Dominican). Jelly is very nice, "normal", excellent service, reasonable (except for starters) --- MUCH more the romantic spot.

When you go to Capt. Cooks before you even sit down stop at the large tank with all the fresh fish. Someone will come over and help you pick what you want to eat. They will weigh it and cook it the way you like it. When you do this they know you are not one of the one time tourists that frequent the place and treat you as a regular.

If you just sit down and listen to what they tell you, they might try and sell you the Brooklyn Bridge.
