Is Piantini loud?

Does anybody live in the Piantini area? We're considering moving there, wondering if it's 'loud' at nights? I know the city is loud all the time, but in general, is it hard to sleep at night?

Absolutely not.At least in the areas where I have stayed near the French Bakery, near Federico Geraldino...All apartments, no discos or car washes...narrow streets, tight place...expensive as all get out, too. But class place.

Look at what you have posted, just look. Surely this rings alarm bells to you? Why on earth would you consider moving to this place?

Piantini is one of the capital's more upscale neighbourhoods. It is - or was - home to DR1 legend Golo and famously has no colmados. ;) But - much of it is concrete jungle, choked with constant traffic in the daytime and possibly at night too. There are no open spaces, let alone green areas, and depending on precise location it may also be noisy at night. I remember someone posting here about having serious problems with a noisy restaurant on Ave. Gustavo Mejia Ricart.

Lived in Piantini for several years on Paseo de los Locutores, almost at the corner of Churchill Ave. This was a very trafficked area and there was noise. In the northern sections of Piantini, you'll find less, depending on how highly trafficked your street is to get from Churchill to Lincoln.

Also, even Piantini has colmados - I would know :)

Oh noes. Don't tell Golo about the colmados. His non-chopo credentials are at stake.

Will you be living in a torre? On what floor?

I stayed on the seventh floor of an upscale torre right next to Acropolis for a week. I will concur with the other posters that traffic during rush hours was horrible. Also, the place is a concrete jungle. There is very little open space where you can get out of the urban craziness. But I will say this, from the seventh floor, traffic noise was not at all a problem. Of course, there is the constant background din of the city but you get that in any part of the capital. Or should I say, there is background din in every city in the world.

In the evenings the traffic in Piantini drops off dramatically. And if you are high up, you can’t hear a thing!

My ex-sister in law owns several apartments in the Piantini are of SD, needless to say the "noise" is not as loud and problematic as 90% of the other areas within the city, but to say they're calm is not putting it fair!

Unless they moved the recently built Caney tower to the middle of Piantini, the noise is pretty much what you expect of highly transited streets. The more so when your unit faces a major avenue of cross street, with high congestion on peak hours.

Just to offer you an idea of how the noise is for units and streets of the area, take a look (and hear) this video of a unit sitting at the top of one tower (pent house unit). You can tell the noise is louder in the lower floors and street level, but to say that being on a higher floor will be equal to calmness, it's stretching things a bit too much!

The video starts in the lobby area (ground level) where you park and enter the tower. after a few seconds there it goes to the pent house at the top of the tower.

Living in a city like SD is akin to any other city with high traffic, and comparable noise levels around the world.

And people ask me to no end, why we love Santiago so much!

On weekdays don't expect much calm in the nest of Paranoid Republic...noisemakers, honkers and people rushing everywhere.

Weekends (Saturday after 3PM until Monday 6AM): Noise drops to a tolerable level...
