I need to purchase Moringa oleifera tree starts/cuttings and leafy branches. It also goes by the name of "la libertad" or "palo de aceite" here in the DR. Please contact me if you have some.

I can see it here all over on the roadside here in La Vega. I had brought some good variety seeds from India and gave it to my friend to grow it here. But failed to follow with him and do not know what he did with that.

Nin is Neam tree and it is Azadirachta indica. Yes it is good mosquito repellent and has anti-microbial properties. It cannot be used as cattle feed because it is highly bitter. It is used as bio - pesticide and kernel cake as manure.

Whereas Moringa is Drumstick and here they call as Libertad. It has stick - like pod. The pods and leaves are highly nutritious.

Lol! First I was thinking "Moringa" is yet another Sanky somebody is looking for or something to eat :)

But now I got! And sorry to ask that in your thread... but does somebody can tell me where I could purchase "Niem-Trees" here in the DR? A little bigger than seed size, though!

Thanks

You mean neem trees. I do not know if anyone sell those. But it is very easy to raise from seeds. But the seeds has to be fresh. Now it is the right time to collect the seeds. When you pass any neem tree stop and look for fruits on the ground and plant them in nursery bags. It will easily germinate.

I'm reviving this old thread on Moringa....

Many times over the years, when one of us was sick, someone [maid, caretaker, etc.] would show up with some leaves and brew us moringa tea. I've never seen the tree, but supposedly it's easy to find in DR.

Yesterday Mr. AE and I were wandering around Marshall's in their gourmet foods aisles, and came across this box of Moringa Tea. Just had a cup, delicious.

Wondered if anyone one else uses moringa in DR, and for what ailment? Sorry the photo is sideways, I don't know why it does that sometimes

Hi Mike,

Neem tree is all over east coast. In cocotal, the main street is sidelined with neem trees. In higuey there is a lot inside campo. Where do you live? Come to cocotal and i can give you some. In india we use the neem twigs to brush our teeth. It's an amazing natural gift. Place the neem leaves in your storage area of spices, rices etc and you wont have food bugs. And more virtues.

Where in dr are you? La vega has a lot of indian vegetable farms including moringa. Inside punta cana, near the entrance of Ojos Indigenas in punta cana foundation, you have a couple of them. Moringa leaves make a nice salad with some garlic. Drumsticks or the thing green palitos from the moringa trees is a very common vegetable in India. It is also know for it's potent qualities that once the government of india wanted to make pills like in natural viagra. delicious vegetable.

I bought it at Marshall's, in New Jersey. I'd buy it in DR if it came in tea bags!

OMG ! We use it back home too, it is nicknamed "miracle plant" in Africa because it has so many properties and very rich in Vitamins and minerals. Sometimes, it's used in powder form as well. It is being studied heavily in West Africa by scientists from Europe.

I have read it to not drink the tea at night, as it can prevent you from sleeping. Also, its high content in fiber have a laxative effect. :glasses:

I had no idea, they used it in DR.
