Hotel is closed. Looks like a ghost town. Really sad. Your pictures also pre-date the most picturesque golf course in the Caribbean, Playa Grande Golf Course, the jewel of the resort. The property has changed hands many times since you were there due to its native beauty but has never had a successful development plan due primarily to poor access. No one with money wants to take Mr. Toads wild ride through Gasper Hernandez and the like every time they visit. The nearby towns of Rio San Juan and Cabrerra have also suffered from lack of tourism to the area. That will change someday with the construction of a North Coast highway and this beautiful area will enjoy a resurgence.

Gone to seed. No guests. Shared the same fate as several other small hotels in the area that were niche hotels feeding off tourism in the Playa Grande development.

Playa Grande Update

Please see the new Playa Grande development in the works at Playa Grande Club & Reserve - Dominican Republic. Recently bought by Aman Resorts along with a consortium of international developers, the plans include a small 5* hotel, a number of private homes, a brand new club house, restaurants, etc. Construction on the first home by the 2nd tee is well underway. The beach at Playa Grande is being surveyed, local fish shack proprietors being bought out. Lots of investors, engineers, architects buzzing about Cabrera and the area. Lots going on. What it all amounts to....and if ever fully built and completed....is anyone's guess.
