In the allocution of the doctor Leonel Fern?ndez, the country expected that this itself to refer to the pressing problems that bother to the Dominican Republic, but in reality the words of the president of the PLD, only they served to recall him to the town, that if votes for the purple party, only will be contributing to deepen those problems and also to be sharpening knife for its own throat, was well said the phrase of the doctor Fern?ndez of: "Memory against the Oversight", therefore that shows what we have said many times, the comesolos think that this town is forgetful and that does not have memory, besides the phrase: "Evil comio does not think", that words also you left of the PLD. You doctor was mistaken Fern?ndez, this town does not forget and has in its mind many things of the ones that you should be repented or to renounce of the presidency of the Dominican Republic. This town recalls that during their government, that is the government of the PLD and of Danilo Medina, the debts contracted with the internal economic sectors were not full and that as a result of that there they were many owners of businesses and engineers contractors that had to resort to the suicide, therefore did not endure the pressures consequence of the irresponsibility of her government. This town recalls Fern?ndez, that a Corporation of State Businesses existed call CORDE, where thousands of Dominicans worked and they earned a living and you and its government they sold them to the sector "private", without up to now be known which was the location of the thousands of millions of pesos product of that sale. This town recalls that with its unscripted neoliberal politics, you privatized all the businesses of the state, including the Dominican Corporation of Electricity, CDE. And the consequences of this badly business is that our country is paying the most expensive electric power in all the American continent and receives the most very bad service. This town has in its mind, that in the government of Hip?lito Mejia, the Dollar was to 50 for one, but the consumer staples were stabilized, now the Dollar is to 37,5 and the prices of the articles are higher and less accessible than when was Hip?lito. The Dominican town recalls, that the petroleum milkshake gas gallon cost $25,00, with the Dollar to the 50 for one and now that this to 37,5 for one the gas costs $110,00. This town has not forgot doctor Fern?ndez, that the majority of its officials they belonged downward and medium lower middle class and now are representatives of the Oligarchy, without being able to give a satisfactory explanation on the origin of its fortunes, to the town not one must speak him with many philosophies, only one must tell them the things as they are and you has not done it, therefore you should explain because in its government So many acts of corruption have been detected, without up to now you have taken the corresponding measures. They are many acts of corruption and there this the case of the CDEEE and other dependences of the State and you alone has concealed with other charges to the guilty. Expl?quele to the town, because while in the schools there is not not even chalks neither desks, you is spent so many million Euro in trips that him there are resolved nothing to this country, explain, because while in the hospitals there is not neither stretchers for the sick and the emergencies, you have officials that win but of 2, 000.000,00 and you continue naming but bottles in its government. China is the country but populated of the world and its population reaches to but of seven hundred million inhabitants and in spite of this alone has a consul in the united states and a vice consul and the Dominican Republic, with some 12 million inhabitants, has more than 60 vice consuls. This town recalls that the representatives of the National Banks, they recognized in a public document, that Hip?lito Mej?a went who saved the National Financial System and that by its elegance and responsibility did not succumb this System. This town has good memory and recalls that this document this signed by the representatives of the banks: Of Reserves; Popular and other banks.

To the Victory Always.

Evidently, this was written by someone who really hates the president. It is easy to ignore the bad things that happened when someone of your political leaning was in charge, but screaming diatribes cannot hide the facts. In a previous post regarding a different issue, I asked a reader to supply me with a list of 2 or more major positive things from the last adminstration of Hipolito , but received no response. That was because there were none.

Barker, first I say thank you for your translation .This is a tragedy for the DR and however hard to believe is [laying out in other countries as well. The names change but the situations are very, very similar. I am grateful that we now have the technology to expose these fraudulent practices both in government and private industry but the big challenge ahead is how to correct these injustices and live peacefully .

The following caught my attention: "Evil comio does not think", and I'm sure it translates to "mal com?o no piensa", which means: "you can't think on an empty stomach".

The article is bias and misinforms. The author claims:
  • The DR pays the most expensive electricity rate of the americas. Not true. The average cost in Puerto Rico is similar to the DR and Turks and Caicos is much more expensive at US$0.49 per kWh.
  • He implies that LPG at $110 is the President's fault. LPG cost US$2.86 (RD$108.68) per gallon according to the USA EIA. Cost of Propane | National Propane Prices

The article is political caca, and I stopped reading after the propane drivel.

Translation from Google

In the speech of Dr. Leonel Fernandez, the country hoped that this would refer to the pressing problems facing the Dominican Republic, but in reality the words of the president of the LDP, only served to remind people that if you vote for the purple party it will only help to deepen those problems and also be sharpening the knife to one?s own throat, it was good that the words of Dr. Fernandez: "Memory Against Forgetting", because it shows what we have said many times, hungry individuals are forgetful and have no memory, and the phrase "Evil ate not think [the hungry do not remember]" that words also came out of the PLD.

Dr. Fernandez you were wrong, these people will not forget but remember the many things that you should repent or resign from the presidency of the Dominican Republic. The people remember that during your government, which is the government of the LDP and Danilo Medina, the debts owed to domestic economic sectors were not paid and as a result of that there were many business owners and engineers, contractors had to resort to suicide[bankruptcy]; therefore could not withstand the pressures due to the irresponsibility of its government. The people remember Fernandez, who was a State Enterprise Corporation CORDE call, where thousands of Dominicans working and earning a living and you and your government sold to "private", but until now know which was the fate of billions of dollars selling this product.

The people remember your impromptu neoliberal policies, your privatization of all state enterprises, including Corporaci?n Dominicana de Electricidad, CDE. And the consequence of this bad deal is that our country is paying the most expensive electricity in the Americas and gets the most abysmal service. The people remember that during the government of Hipolito Mejia, the peso was 50 to 1, but the staples were stabilized, now the peso is 37.5 and the prices of items are higher and less affordable then during Hipolito. The Dominican people remember that a gallon of gasoline was $ 25.00, with a dollar to 50 and now is at 37.5 for a gas costs $ 110.00.

The people have not forgotten, Dr. Fernandez, that the majority of its officials were in the low and medium petty bourgeoisie [middle class] and are now representatives of the oligarchy, unable to give a satisfactory explanation for the origin of their wealth. The people there to talk with many philosophies, simply tell it like it is and you have not done, then you should explain why your government has encountered many acts of corruption, but until now you have taken appropriate action. Many acts of corruption and that this case CDEEE and other state and you only have concealed other charges to guilty.

Explain to people, why the schools do not even have chalk or desks, while you spend many millions of dollars on trips that have not solved anything in this country; explain, because while there are no hospital beds for the sick and emergencies, you have officials who earn more than $2,000,000.00 and you keep naming more positions in your government. China is the world's most populous country and its population reaching more than seven million people [?] although it only has a U.S. consul and vice consul and the Dominican Republic, with 12 million inhabitants, has more than 60 vice consuls. The people remember that the representatives of National Banks, acknowledged in a public document, that Mejia was the one who saved the national financial system and for their gallantry and responsibility did not succumb this system. The people have a good memory and remember that this document is signed by the representatives of the banks: Reserve; Popular and other banks.

Ever onward to victory.

The author is obviously a PRD member. Although there are some truths in the article; it is tainted with biased political propaganda.

Aren't ALL political articles biased?

Anywhere in the world?

I thought that the writer's response to Leonel's speech was better than Hippolito's - he just called Leonel a liar, while the writer backed his opinion with specifics, regardless of whether one agrees with them.

It kind of made me wonder if that's how a lot of Dominicans are thinking these days, and why Hippolito may have a very good chance of winning.

I don't see anybody explaining away how Fernandez has sold the public institutions, the ever increasing high salaries of functionaries, ridiculous number of said functionaries in the Dominican embassies abroad and the ridiculous number of trips Leonel took with his entourage that makes the Pope's entourage look like that of a two bit banana republic - es que la guagua va en reversa.

The article says Fernandez:

"privatiz? todas las empresas del estado, incluyendo la Corporaci?n Dominicana de Electricidad, CDE"

He must have also worked out a deal with the Brazilians because they are getting a lot of the lucrative engineering contracts in the country that could have gone to Dominican companies like a dam project, Samana water main, and the Constanza highway.

What he says is basically true, no matter your political leaning. The outrageous corruption has now pushed drug money to one side in the construction sector. Just ask any engineer who builds apartments...
As for schools and hospitals...it is evident.
However, some of his numbers are off, perhaps because La Informaci?n does not have good proofreaders, perhaps because he was careless. China has 1.3 or 1.4 billion people. The DR has perhaps 10.5 million. the fact that we have 40 vice-consuls and China has 1 is striking. There are many other areas that can be compared also...we have more generals than Brazil for example.

The explosion that is coming regarding the electricity rates will be important. As for our electricity vs Turks and Caicos or Puerto Rico...not fair...apples and onions. If we had the percentage of people hooked up to the system as in PR or T&C, ie, people who pay for electricity, our rates would be cut in half...

HB, my point exactly. Where is it not fair? The author made a statement that DR has the most expensive rate of the Americas. He therefore made the comparison or is Puerto Rico and Turks and Caicos not part of the Americas? In Antigua and Barbuda 1kWh of electricity is EC$0.88 (0.88 East Caribbean Dollar = US$0.32736 = RD$12.43968). Is the comparison fair? If so the DR does not the most expensive electricity in the region.

This is obviously not true. Not EVERY state industry has been privatized. Is this such a bad thing?

“Esta empresa que antes eran deficitarias, que para mantenerse operando el gobierno ten?a que subsidiarlas, hoy est?n generando beneficios al Estado dominicano”, precis?.

No offense but a positive report from an organization that directly answers to the president and another one headed by none other than the PLD director for the Santiago region is not so impressive in my book given that Leonel is a spin doctor of grand proportions. Heck, I suppose he believes if he keeps telling us that everything is so great at some point somehow we'll finally agree. :)

Please explain what you mean, when you say it's evident. Not doubting , just not sure what you mean.
