Where is it?
How long a drive from Boca Chica?
Is it worth going to see?
Near Haiti border, is it safe to drive to?
Any towns with hotels in the area?

Would appreciate any help from anyone who has been to this area.

Thanks

Gari

Jarabacoa is the closest town with a number of lodging options. There are a number of tour companies that offer excursions. Here are links to two reputable companies. Iguana Mama - Ecological Adventure Tours - Dominican Republic - Cabarete

River Rafting - Canyoning - Pico Duarte Tours and the Papillon Garden with Butterfly Exhibition at Rancho Baiguate Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic!

It's in the center- west of the country- aprox 3/4 hour from Santiago
3 hour drive from BC to Jarabacoa.
A long ways from the Haitian border.

The drive to La Ci?nega from Boca Chica is about 3 1/2 hours. La Ci?nega is the most popular jump off point for the hike to Pico Duarte. You can have it coordinated, which has already been mentioned or you can do it yourself - hiring a guide and staying at the park service refuge in La Ci?nega the night before you begin the hike.

If you are serious about going and need a guide's details, PM me.

Otherwise, you can read this crazy experience: http://www.dr1.com/forums/trip-reports/97976-pico-duarte-14-hours.html

There was also another detailed post about Pico Duarte. You just need to search for it.

There is no shortcut or express lane to any place worth the trouble of going to...

You'll find it worthwhile the trip and trouble...
