Incredible Pictures

Wow, thanks for posting these.

Just wondering if they come from the National Archives? There was a DR1 story about changes to the archives in the last couple of days and it seems like that could be the source.

If these are from family/personal photos, you have a national treasure trove for sure.

I LOVE archival photos. Back when I worked in the photo dept. of a major university; I was often assigned to print photos from the negatives in the archives. Some very cool stuff, and a lot of the images here reminded me of that. Thanks Pichardo!

Loved seeing these old photos, especially the Aqua Luz in SD, spent a few New Years Eves there dancing the night away back in the late 70s. Once we had kids we stayed at home with the family in SD, eating instead of dancing. :)

Good memories.

During Trujillo, the today Ministry of Education had to provide real data of how many schools, students in both elementary, mid and high school there was at any given day of the week compared to how he founded it in 1930. This data was plastered in the entry wall of the Ministry. He was used to make unannounced spot visits and expected the data to be up to that day's of his entrance to his eyes.

My husband and I just looked through all these old photos together, he loved them too. This one stopped us both in our tracks - no Ave. Winston Churchill, only the lower Jimenez Moya section. Only the Embajador Hotel in the middle of nothing.

All the land in this photo near the malecon, where La Feria is today, belonged to his grandparents, it was the Martinez-Gonzalez farm, which stretched from what is today Ave. Lincoln to the Coca Cola factory, malecon to Independencia. He was born there in their home, before Trujillo "bought" the land from them.

I wish there was an older photo that showed the area before Trujillo transformed it.
