Arrived in Punta Cana - picked up rental car - drove to Santigo - only got lost twice but we able to find our way out of Santo Domingo towards Santigo. Long day, Driving was crazy with traffic nothing but a little tight squeeze and we made it with an inch to spare. We were Stopped once by the police and was asked for identification ect.. then asked for a cold coke which was not given only because we did not have any. the policeman kept looking back behind him to make sure his supervisor was not watching 20 peseo later and we were off.

Santigo - we called Davidoff cigar factory and asked for a tour. What a great place, we were given a tour by Hendrick [the manager] we spent 2 hours there, were given some rum recomendations, a some cigars that were great !!!!!

Next was Luperon - a big disappointment - we had heard a great deal of wonderful things from fellow sailors about the place we were going to look at property there. not happening, nothing was happening there so we took the extra time we had planned to spend there and off we went to Sousa.

Sousa - Got stopped by police - ticketed for no seatbelt -- sent to the bank[with escort] to get a receipt [ of course the bank had no idea what we were talking about - they sent us to the police station -- after waiting there for the magistrate to show up - we gave our escort 200 peseos - and said were leaving - and we left. we also left sosa and headed for Las Terrenas

Las Terrenas - fantastic, wonderful place spent a couple of days looking at property, spent a couple of days on the beach -- wonderful and can't wait to return with money in hand to buy.

Back to Punta Cana via the new road wonderful !!!! took a side trip to Samana.

Over all a fantastic trip can't wait to return. Don't be afraid to drive. wonderful people wonderful culture...:D:D:D:D

Very true, but the beach is gorgeous, especially if you just want to relax and not be hassled every 5 minutes to buy something.

Your right, the beach is very tranquil, you will never be harrased by venders, BUT the beach is full of those round little things with many thorns, I forget its name at the moment.

Sea urchins?

We didn't see any when we were there, but they can be awful. Have seen them sometimes at Playa Najayo too.

you are fortunate you found Las Terrenas. Hope you were lucky enough to travel the new road. I sincerely hope you found someone reputable to assist you with property searches. All I can say is watch out!!!!!!!! You are already likely in trouble announcing you have money to spend and giving a name out.

Thats it; Sea urchins. I had a nasty run in with those things at that beach in Luperon, I stepped on one with my bare toes, that will haunt me for ever. I think about that day every time someone mentions Luperon.

we did travel part of the new road - it was not officially opened at the time. Not sure we found a reputable person, once we found a house we were interested in -with in 3 hrs- we were told serveral people were also interested in the same house - since we were not ready to purchase we dropped all interest. If you know of some one who is reputable please share !!!

It is easier to find a snow storm in Santo Domingo than a truly reputable Real Estate Agent here.
