My girlfriend in Puerto Plata injured her knee in a moto accident and the doctor she visited has recommended she go get an MRI in Santiago. From the x-rays and her symptoms it looks pretty bad, so I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations on a good doctor in Puerto Plata, Santiago, Sosua, or anywhere in this kind of area.

She has little confidence in local doctos and I am in Canada right now, so I'd like to help her find the good care.

Dr. Raul Martinez 809-750-2970, his specialty is on knee joints; he works in Puerto Plata, tell him Jorge Sarduy from Santiago recommended
good luck; had my meniscus repaired about 1 1/2 year ago, still playing softball and basketball

I second DV8's recommendation of Dr. Miranda. He helped to save my leg when I developed gangrene.

~You must be careful in generically selecting a knee surgeon. They all specialize in different areas, it all depends on what type of knee injury she has....if its a full acl or pcl replacement needed then you need a Dra that specializes in the replacement surgery....

~You would not go to an ear Dra for an eye infection....I'm just stating you need to find out what Dra specializes in types of Knee injuries and treatment plans.

re: diagnosis

Thank you everyone for your responses. I am in Puerto Plata and we are waiting for the results of an MRI she got last week in Santiago at the Clinica Bonilla. She has copies of the MRI and the X Rays but is waiting on the results from the Clinic. Rather than seek out a surgeon at this point, I'd really to have some recommendations of who could give her the approrpriate diagnosis and recommendations.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

You have three recomendations above. You say you don't want to see a surgeon for an appropriate diagnosis? Who do you want to see? I doubt in today's world that there is an orthopedic specialist who is not a surgeon.

Dislocated my kneecap, so I'm looking for a surgeon on the North Coast, at least for a diagnostic.
Willing to go to the Capital. Looking for someone with lots of knee repair experience.

If you're willing to go to Santo Domingo, a doctor friend swears by this man for knees, here's the message she sent me when I asked, it was last year so call to confirm office times:

Dr. Alfredo Guerrero Krantz, Ortop?dico & Traumat?logo, SD

"Dr Alfredo Guerrero Krantz ib clinica. Abel gonzalez norte
809 540-6856. He is there m w f in the morning and all afternoons. I usually go before 2 pm so I am first. It is in order of who comes first
He is very nice and VERY capable"

From my experience with North Coast orthopedists, I would strongly suggest that you consider Santiago or Santo Domingo.

I was looking at the list from HOMS (Orthopedists).
What I'd like to know if which one sees a lot of knees.
At least I could get an MRI done and go from there.
There's also someone in Bournigal?

I was treated by two different orthopedists at Bournigal - one for a wrist fracture and the other for a leg injury. Would not recommend either. The head of the hospital, Dr. Rotondo, is supposed to be decent, but forget anyone else. I don't know if Dr. Rotondo specializes in knees.

Realized too late to fix my post that the director's name is Redondo not Rotondo.

Sorry!

I can recommend Dr. Enrique Anico at the Centro M?dico Cibao
I could probably find a couple more but this is the guy who fixes me up.

I'm doing much better with just a stiff kneecap area pretty much.
I understand that I might have some imbalance on my quad. So rehab will definitely be welcome.
However I still wanted it checked out by a surgeon and have an MRI done just to be safe and make sure I'm worth to hit the water again.
One another problem about Bournigal is the facilities that may not be as nice as some others.
Any recommendation from HOMS?
Otherwise I'll be going to the Capital within a month so I might as well get it checked out there.

Dr. Luis Gomez Infante at the Plaza de la Salud in Santo Domingo is excellent. He did my knee surgery last year. Repaired a torn meniscus, damaged cartilage and a misaligned kneecap. Only two tiny circular scars and no more problems. Received excellent service from him And his staff.
