How long is the drive from the capital to Higuey, and also from Higuey to Punta Cana and Cap Cana (I think Punta Cana and Cap Cana are approximately 15 minutes from each other, right? If so, just answer the time from Higuey to Punta Cana for the second part of the question.

Also, are the roads good?

Thanks.

Yes, it's under 15 mins drive from PC to CC.

The first 100kms from Santo Domingo to La Romana are on good roads, mainly 4-lane highway. Take special care on the stretch that goes from Las Americas airport until you pass Boca Chica - lots of crazy motorbikes and guaguas.

Once you're in La Romana you have to go through the city - turn right at the first main intersection (traffic lights) and continue straight on. The stretch between La Romana and Higuey is not great. Only two lanes, lots of curves and potholes. Drive with extreme care.

Higuey itself is a chaotic, congested city and although there is some signposting, it's advisable to ask for directions. A few kms after Higuey you drive through the town La Otra Banda, be on alert for the right turn that takes you towards Punta Cana - not very clearly signposted. The La Otra Banda - Punta Cana stretch is windy, narrow and there is lots of wild overtaking by guaguas, especially the ones that transport hotel employees.

Total driving time 3 hours, more if you get stuck in traffic in Higuey/La Otra Banda.
