Looks nice. I just hope they remember to at least do the minimum when it comes to earthquake resistance on all these new towers built "al vapor", otherwise we're going to be in a world of hurt.

They are up to code and then some... In order for them to be able to woo international tenants into their shopping areas, they're required to submit a qualification certification for the such by the potential tenants and their insurance policies.

This was to be the "Blue Mall" high end shopping center, but the money to back the former owner was not there.

Blue Mall got late into the building stage but did open the doors first and the rest is history.

The building may be 'up to code', but the code doesn't include a sign-off by the fire marshall right?

What I can't understand about all these towers going up in my neighbourhood - they're all just fire pits waiting to kill people. There's no proper fire escapes, and there's not enough bomberos for naco/piantini/eviristo morales put together...

I remember when that lot was a Fridays :)

I always try to take as many pictures as I can on the streets wherever I go in the DR over the weekends, because I know in less than the next decade or two, it will look like another type of place to me.

The DR (more so SD) is changing dramatically in a radial out manner. The major cities are pushing outwards and their centers vertically each time around. Every 5 years there's notable changes in the areas most desired by biz alike.

Santiago? All it takes is to look how a desolated strip was changed since the airport was built and the HOMS as of lately.

Villa Olga is losing the private homes by the month as each old single family home is replaced soon after by an apartment complex almost overnight. Even Los Cerros is losing the fight to remain a private residences area to the towers...

I told you already, the DR with 24/7 electricity and less corruption will be insanely expensive for the average city dweller to muster in a urban setting.

Each time one of these big projects rises from the ground, how many new direct formal jobs you think are created, not to mention the indirect ones.

A rule of thumb for biz in the DR is that old Malls and plazas don't just roll over the keel and die when these behemoths come to life, they simply reinvent the wheel with a long term and highly attractive tenant.

Like I said before, name one (1) Mall in the DR that closed down for good due to competition or newcomers?

Pichardo, I must first say that I always enjoy your boundless enthusiasm and optimism for your country even though I don?t agree with your view each time. And I am not trying to be snarky when making the following point but only suggesting something for you to consider in order to help people enjoy your posts more.

Please self edit how many photos you post ? there is really no need to post what is basically the same photograph 2, 3 or even 4 times in a row. The difference of a few degrees in the taking of the photo is not enough to justify posting all of them. Please don't post blurry or badly exposed photos. Three or four well chosen, well composed photos will carry a much greater visual and emotional punch than having to scroll down through so many similar photos that the viewer loses interest.

This area of Naco is going to have a huge problem with traffic. It already has.
