Good Morning, About one half of undocumented persons in the US did not sneak in through the back door but rather overstayed the visas granted to them. The rhetorical question is when caught should be granted voluntary departure, deported or is it ok for individual US legal residents to use whatever methods to allow them to stay. I know that there is a cottage industry in the DR about how to game the system in order to just get here via sham marriages, false relatives petition, student/study/work programs, false medical reports etc. The difference especially considering the advances in biometric identification is so complicated that I could not list it all here. I do not think that most Dominicans know that getting caught overstaying or in a yola is a major problem for future applications. As a side note it appears that the US Consulate is finally taking action against MLB players who use false names.
