Gyms in POP - Exercise equipment in POP or STGO
what are you doing about it?
There is a goldgym in Santiago, their number is 8092419091. Ask them what they are doing about that problem. Im not saying it wojt happen there, but considering that it is more expensive than other gyms, the people that go there are a little bit more educated. At least goldgym has an international standard to maintain so customer support will be better. Give them a letter Asking them to write a note to all members and staff, or a big sign in the entrance explainning that harrasment is a form of gender violence, and when in doubt, if the woman hasnt spoken to you, then leave her the hell alone, or you will be fired, or the police will be called if you are a member. Make sure they sign and seal a copy of the letter for you to keep in case you decide to sue them. Following the same line of thought, if you like your present gym, and they just don t get it. Go to the national palace of justice, to gender violance affairs, explain the situation. They will send a prosecutor to speak to the administration to do something about it. Believe me, it works. No one will make this place better, it is up to the people that want to stay living here to fight for their rights. Gyms know they can get in a lot of trouble if they give a blind eye to harrassment.

actually I'm asking for my GF, and we're looking for a gym in POP, where she's living; we could buy the home training equipment in STGO, if there are no specialized stores in POP; most important would be a yoga mat and some weights.
she likes her current gym, but is fed up by the constant ogling/staring and occasional harrassement.
it would have to be her who's doing the complaining, and as you know the majority of DR women are rather submissive in this respect and avoid conflict of any kind.
she would much rather change the gym.
otherwise there's always the option of training at home.

In POP the gym that I go to is Fausto Gym,809-261-6105. They have all the equipment and classes that you are looking for. Mon-Fri. Aerobic classes (6 times a day), Merengue class Fri. pm, and Spinning classes ( 3 times a day), Power Yoga returns in Feb. 2012. Cost is RD500 a month membership. The best gyms on the north coast, by far, is the Gold's Gym inside Ocean Village gated community ($2500 pesos a month) and includes a 50 meter swimming pool for doing laps; or Platinum's gym in downtown Sosua, on the 4th floor (top floor) of the casino--across from Marua Mai restaurant--it sits on the top floor over-looking Sosua bay and the Atlantic ocean with 180 degrees of breathtaking views of water. ($1000 pesos a month).

Sosua is too far to drive just to go to the gym. You need one in Puerto Plata. Look at Fausto's and American Gym. Any taxi or motoconcho will be able to take you straight to them. If she has not even been to a gym in the DR, how do you know she will be harassed? I have been to a good number of the gyms in the DR, in PP, Santiago and Santa Domingo and have never seen women being harassed that did not want the attention and demonstrated it by coming to the gym in sexy clothes, perfume and full makeup.
i go to the gym in costambar (27 dollars a month for club members, 40 bucks otherwise). the equipment is rather old school 
but good enough for me (i mostly do weights anyways). the biggest selling point of our gym is a dude who runs it, richard, who is also a private trainer. he takes care of everyone who goes to the gym. helps with excercise program and really looks after people. when i first started he aksed me what i wanted to achieve and he works hard to help me meet my goals.
the gym itself is small and very private, i have never seen or heard any harassment.
