I like Johnny Rockets but I don't think we need to worry about these types of franchises bringing in the American "gordito" syndrome. As Robert pointed out Wendy's is upscale for most people here. The American franchises are only going to be patronized by the very small percentage of the population that can afford it. Until the price of fast food is within the budget of the average citizen it won't really matter whether the restuarants are here or not to the average citizens' weight.

It the only country I have been in that the local population consider Wendy's upscale. hehehe
But then again it's hard (next to impossible) to find a Wendy's with this type of approach to fast food settings in the first world, as they do here in the DR:
I had lunch at the Johnny Rockets in the Mall near my home, for the first time, with daughter and grandson. The burger was one of the best I've ever had, and we loved the little dancing show the servers put on every so often. I wonder if they'll be dancing to the oldies in DR too? Our waiter told us to be sure to try their milk shake next time, claims they're the best around.
There's a very new concept of fast food restaurant in SD called "Platanos", you guys should try it!

Fast food will forever be Junk food... Or at least until people can allow the "fast" part be "slow" enough for a real nutritional meal to be made on spot...
Somehow the "fast" food salad bar theme never made a dent...
I don't know about there, but Johnny Rockets isn't 'fast food' here, certainly not like McDonalds or Wendy's. All the food is cooked to order
It's proven that in the DR you can. Hell people dress up to go eat at Pizza Hut as they believe is high scale dinner...go check the Pizza Hut at Naco (Tiradentes)...
