This could be merged into the thread on the new migration law, but I think it is a distinct topic and deserves a separate thread because of this new and potentially very annoying issue for some people.

If you leave the DR for a period of 6 months or more continuously, a DR Permanent Resident will lose residency unless you obtain permission to be out for 6 months or more at a time. There was no such requirement before. You can be out of the country for a total of more than 6 months in a year, but just not a continuous period of 6 months or longer without approval.


My questions would be to our legal experts:

Did I state this correctly above?

How does one go about getting permission?

I would like to know the answer to this also. I am quite shocked to see this posted here and would like Mr. Guzman to provide his feedback since he works closely with the laws of the D.R.
