    of course the "dues" to the Meeting are not really "due" as in expected or required

    just that that is my home.. and I want to help keeping the Meeting House upright.

    and good luck with getting rid of the mosquitos

    i mean

    has anyone ever gotten rid of mosquitos in the tropics?

    would that not somehow up set the entire ecosystem?
    ============================================================
    Malaria and yellow fever used to be a serious problem in the American South. Now it is quite rare. Malaria (paludismo) is rare in the DR and Mexico, and this was not always the case. It had to be eradicated in order to complete the Panama Canal.
    So the disease CAN be prevented. Getting rid of mosquitoes is more difficult.
    Now that we can manipulate mosquito DNA, it seems more likely that we can eradicate the several types of disease bearing mosquitoes forever.
    Or simply alter the mosquito DNA so that it cannot transmit these diseases.

    The disease is spread by a specific type of mosquito, but not all such mosquitoes carry the disease.

    Thanks for that MA.

    There is some hopeful news of traction with the proposed economic developments in the border zones of recent and that would be a very good way to address employment and immigration issues.

    DR1 News yesterday:

    Haitian president tours Codevi in Ouanaminthe
    President of Haiti Jovenel Moïse visited the installations of the border free zone company Codevi of Grupo M in the Dominican Republic to personally get to know job creation opportunities under the bi-national initiative promoted by the Quisqueya Binational Economic Council. He met with Fernando Capellán of Grupo M and businessman Juan Vicini. The group stresses that job creation in Haiti is the best way to reduce Haitian migration to the Dominican Republic and therefore the program is a win-win for both countries. As reported in Diario Libre, Moïse demonstrated his satisfaction on the impact Codevi has had in the Haitian population in Ouanaminthe and said his government would back the public-private initiative.

    Also participating in the meeting were Ouanaminthe mayor Luma Demetrus, senator Wanique Pierre, Dajabón senator Sonia Mateo, Dajabón governor Ramona Rodriguez, and Anibal Capellán, Cristian Capellán and Victor Thomas of the Codevi management.

    Good article but really didn't shed any light on what most of us already know about Haiti. What it is really is a shame that a country who's people are intelligent, resourceful and self starters have been plundered and piledged by those who saw how the masses could feed their personal wealth. Most Haitian "leaders" used their fellow countrymen to help benefit themselves. Haitis turbulent history, natural disasters and forced reliance on outside influences have brought it to where it is today. There is still hope in the hearts of it's citizens who have been knocked down but find a way to pick themselves up with a dignity that most of us could not muster.
