OK, so I have a few and I wanted to share. I just realized that it may be hard to tell you where some of them are, but I will give it a shot. Make sure you posts yours, too. I am always looking for decent cheap food!!

Dicks (in the center of Cabarte): where you can get coffee and several pastries for under 150rd. You also have a few breakfast choices like desayuno ingles for 150rd and it comes with juice.

Restaurant Max (where WOW bar used to be): YES it is open and they have some pretty good stuff there. You can get the plato del dia for 100rd. The good part to me is that although the plato del dia is "dominican food" it is not quite dominican tasting. It is made by a Russian lady so it has a little different style to it. Still yummy. She also has a bunch of other items (russian and other countries) on the menu for under 150 rd.

Concho Loco (across from Ocean Dream): Plato del dia is $130. Choice of cerdo, res, pollo guisado or frito.

D'Chino (in callejon on the right): Dominican food for 100rd. HUGE portions. Totally a local Dominican spot.

Across from D'Chino (not sure what it is called but the owners are french and it is directly across the street from D'Chino in callejon on the left side of the street after Bodega. They have outside seating and chalk boards facing the street. The cook has a ponytail): Cheeseburger and fries 99rd (large burger and decent amount of fries). Chicken burger and fries 99rd (friend chicken breast not processed patty). Bolognese 99rd. BIG OLE PLATE. Closed Tues/Wed.

That's all I can remember right now, but I will add more as I remember.

I think the places I know about are covered in Cabarete by the above posts. Thanks for the mention of MAX with the Russian style Dominican food. Could be interesting. Concho Loco has gotten very good reviews from friends that have eaten there. Franco the owner is a nice guy. (My band, The DRopouts, actually played there and we had a good time. ) The Mero in Coconut sauce was very good at Janet's Cafe.

Hrm. I have never thought about checking out Janet's cafe although that is where I do most of my shopping. I will have to go there. Thanks!

I always hear excellent stuff about Gordito's, but when I ate there I got the cheeseburger burrito for 170rd and it was tiny. I felt pretty jipped :( I will give it another try just to make sure.

Oh another good spot. Mojito's on the beach. They have some very yummy sandwiches for 150 and under and it includes a fresh juice. You can mix whatever they have on hand that day and they make it right on the spot. Although I must admit that my favorite sandwich (ham and gorgonzola) is 160 :(

Another cheater!!! That's $166.66666666666666666 per person if you divide it out. LOL I guess if you take out the Presidentes that counts. Thanks! I will look for this place.

Mello (I think but it could be Mella) recently moved there from across from the Ocean Dream plaza. Now it is further to go to get his chicken! I think Anna and Luis are still there just off the corner of Callejon De la Loma on the left with chicken on the grill.

You can cook beans and rice in a solar oven for about 15 pesos. A little fresh cheese 10 pesos.

I can eat out a hell of a lot of times, with the money I would have to spend buying a solar oven. And as I do not have to do the dishes, I save on soap, and hot water.

I'm sure plato del dia is left overs in some places, but from what I have seen it typically just means Dominican Food: guisado or frito, rice and beans, and a salad.

I cook some of the best chicken I have ever eaten (even if I do say so myself), but it is true that most times eating out for 100-150rd is cheaper.

Solar ovens start at 100 dollars - eating 50 times can earn this money back. You can use cool water to do dishes.

Feel free to enjoy your meals.

btw... I prefer to wash my dishes in hot water. You know, to solve the grease, kill germs, little things like that.

Back to topic... I honestly believe it is cheaper, if you are one person, to eat out, instead of buying all ingredients, using the gas, etc...

Not to mention the social aspect as well...

Brand new place at the entrance of Casa Laguna, called Sub Central. Lots of different sub style sandwiches for under 150rd. A Canadian couple just opened it this week. Good sandwiches.
