I feel a little silly asking this question after about 15 trips to the DR.
Is the ice for sale at all colmados and super markets made from purified water?
I have always assumed the ice is made from purified water I have never had an issue but thought I should stop assuming.

Yes it is purified, and the main ice makers are checked periodically to make sure it is safe.
