But the film was made in English. I have the DVD with the original English version. I first saw it in the cinema in SD, comically dubbed into non-Dominican Spanish. So if anything, it is much worse in Spanish.

So, I know this is an old thread, but "La fiesta del Chivo" is now available on hulu. Not the movie referred to above. But a television production in Spanish. I couldn't find it on imdb. I don't recognize the stars in the round robin of telenovelas actors. So far so good. Great costumes. If anybody watches can they comment on the accent of the actors? It is presented on Hulu on he Univision channel. They don't sound Mexican or dominican to me.

Some folks told me about it, then I decided to watch it the second night (on Unim?s) and turned it off. To call it dumb and fake is to insult those two words. Heck! This show is so dumb, that it makes Caso Cerrado an Emmy winner and Jeffrey Wright sound dominicano de pura cepa in "Shaft". (And I was the first--and probably only nincompoop--to criticize John Singleton for not employing a Dominican actor to play Peoples Hern?ndez in "Shaft", when Singleton, along with Spike Lee used to complain about Hollywood's portrayal of A-A actors in a bad light.) Que maldita iron?a. For if Wright sounded Dominican, then I'm Donald Pleasence in Wuthering Heights. But US Latino audience don't know much about acting and theater and such. Just give 'em Don Fran-sick-oh and Caso Cerrado and corny commercials and they're happy. Now Uni-lack-o-visi?n gives them El Chivo and sends Vargas Llosa laughing all the way to the bank. Oh, but I bet a few DR1 mods are glued to the tube. Just goes to show that... well, never mind: ya lo dije.

RTI Producciones (Bogota) so the actors would be mostly Colombian with maybe a Mexican or Venezuelan thrown in the acting pool.

I tried to watch En el Tiempo de las Mariposas a couple years back with Selma Hyak. I had already read the book and the movie was terrible.

After watching La Soga, I have some hope that the DR will be able to make some good historical movies eventually.
