Hmmm, "best city"!! Dont buy one any higher than you can jump out of the window, considering the earthquakes. Now, Sosua, for example is virtually earthquake free and comes with a wonderful small town atmosphere, winding tree lined streets and a safe beach on a bay with plenty of trees for the time when you are tired of baking in the sun. No beach in Santiago. And, best of all, its very difficult to get lonely in Sosua. Sorrry to hijack a thread but I cannot pass up an opportuntity to promote what is one of the nicest towns in the DR, all things considered.

Look, Santiago has a whole lot going for it. It is metropolitan as well as cosmopolitan; it has something for everyone.

It's major drawback is that it is very much a Who do you know sort of place, and if you do not know anyone, you might feel that you are on the outside looking in.

However, good manners, a smattering of Spanish and a little "couth" will go a long way to making friends in the right places, and then things change. You might be swallowed up in the hospitality.

Santiago
To the OP

First, this isn't ebay or craigslist. :)

Second, Santiago is a great place to live based on what everybody else has said.

Yea Santiago is nice but there's no beaches, which is weird for such a good number of people to live in an area that gets 82 degrees in january and not want to live by the water, maybe they are scared of tidal waves but still a very nice area. when u say "good" do you mean crime-free?

How much is a condo to buy in Santiago?

What are the good areas?

How many threads are you going to start and basically ask the same thing over and over? You can find all your answers via google and a myriad of other posts on DR1 on the same topic. Closed.
