NEW YORK (AP) -- The Montreal Expos say they are prepared to lose $20 million this season.
"We have funded and completed the funding for the full $20 million," Expos executive vice president David Sampson said Thursday night.
Sampson admitted that the Expos will general less revenue than projected.
"Attendance has been well below expectations and our corporation sponsorship is much below forecasts," he said.
Sampson vigorously denied that owner Jeffrey Loria would go along with any plan to eliminate the Expos.
"Jeff Loria did not buy a baseball team for one year. We love the game and we want to be in the game for the rest of our time," Sampson said.
When pressed about repeated reports that the Expos might be part of a contraction plan, Sampson didn't give a direct answer, saying, "It would not be fiscally prudent of me to comment on that."
