Changes to airline rules for Canadian travelers

Certain changes have been announced concerning Canadian travelers. "The days of flying off to the Dominican Republic with a driver's license and a birth certificate are about to end. As of May 1, Canadian visitors will have to present a valid passport." For most of us this is not an issue -- we travel with passports. BUT the second part of the announcement says they must also be in possession of a return airline ticket. For many of us who are long-term residents we cannot make definite plans for return. We wait until we arrive to decide on the departure date. A return ticket requirement prevents our picking up cheaper tickets as well. Any chance that there will be a way around this requirement?

Buy two oneway tickets. First one-cheapest fare you can find to D.R. Second one- expensive full fare fully refundable back to Canada. When you get to the beach, call and cancel the second one. Worse that will happen is you'll temporarily tie up some of the available credit on your credit card.
