What's your opinion on Las Terrenas and the area?
From what I've read it's suppose to be a great spot in the DR and it's getting more popular each year.
Has anyone been to The Colonial Risto in LT? I also hear it's for lease.
The beaches and water look amazing.

Thanks,
PJ

Yes, it is amazing and getting ever more popular each year that passes. There are excellent restaurants but do not expect a Big Mac.

Hotel advertisers on this site are well worth investigation. Expect rates for hotels etc. to be from $30 a night for a room without breakfast.

Hi:

I live in LT part of the year so I am someone that is not really objective, however I can honestly say that this area has it all. It is laid back but LT has a very good vibe. The best beaches in the country are here along with some of the best food. Lt has a large European influence. Many of the resorts and restaurants are owned by Italians, French and German ex-pats. You can go zip lining, kiteboarding, go to Limon Falls or simply enjoy the beach. It is definitely worth checking out for yourself.

Las Terrenas is full of restaurants and nice places. Do not fix yourself on 1 place!!!!! From local Luis at Playa Coson to Balcones del Atlantico just outside Las Terrenas, direction El Portillo.

And dont only for the food!!! Las Terrenas is much more and Samana as well!!!!!

Hi:

I have never been to the Risto Colonial. It changed owners about 6 months ago. I am sure the food is good there. My recommendations for Restaurants would be La Yuka Caliente', Tres Caraveles or Sandos.

I have been to LT twice and am heading there again tomorrow. I have eaten at both sandos and tre caraveles. Tres Caraveles is my favorite though sandos was also nice. The churrasco in Tres Caraveles is very good. In both places the owners are always present making sure the food and service is to your liking. That is a welcome change from santo domingo.

For lunch with a great view and some cold beers or cocktails I like Mojitos. Owned by a cuban guy from the states. Good food and service and a great view. I also usually hop on the quad and eat at playa bonita at least once a trip.

I also like the restaurat at Hotel Alisei. Nice variety of food done well.

I heard that the Risto Colonial is for lease and from what I read is doing very well. (if it's doing that well why is it for lease? lol) Just trying to find contact info from owner.

Yes, if you can be without a major casino or golf course LT has lots to offer.
A week-end in the capital is always possible.

How can you travel to SD and stay green? Are you going to use your bicycle? SUV is the best option.

The gangua/coach is the best option for a green if you do not have a glider or solar powerd bicycle. If you are young and fit a cycle is possible but perhaps need to camp out half-way.

Tried a new restaurant last night. Just for some late night snacks. We had lunch at Mojitos. Pork chops for me and shrimp for the novia. Both were very good and reasonably priced. Great location but it was raining.

Was still raining at dinner time so we ordered room service from Alisei. I had milanesa de pollo and the novia had soup. Again very good. The rain let up a bit and we headed to barrio gringo for a few beers. All new crew except for the owner. 2 barmaids were not nearly as attentive as Joe's GF or wife was. They also used to have a young gringo kid and a young dominican barmaid that were both pretty good. Seemed dead last night and the mood was down. I think maybe some personal stuff going on. Will stop in again to see if it was just an off night.

Then we headed back to pueblos de los pescadoras. Mosquitos was packed. I prefer it when it is less crowded for a mellow night of coctails on the beach. Across the street, is a new place called Saloon Steak house. The sign had an "old west" feel to it but the interior was more modern and european. Sort of like a lounge. It was pouring rain so we ordered a beer and a daiquiri and grabbed a seat.

The menu looked good. Ribe Eye and Prime rib on the menu priced at a point where they better be imported. Will try them later this weekend. We were not that hungry so ordered chicken nuggets and fries. I think they brought us orders for two as they were big portions. The chicken nuggets were more like smaller pieces from milanesa and very good. They had flavor similar to milanesa of veal we had in a bar in Buenos Aires. The fries were fresh and still had th skin which we liked. Large portion and very good.

So. 2 beers a strawberry daquiri and chicken tenders plus fries more than enough for two people. 1150 pesos. Left 1400 with tip as the waitress was friendly and very attentive.

We may return tonight to try the steaks but will keep an eye on our quad as we had some issues last night.

Sounds great. Coming for my honeymoon in July.
Big question i have is how best to get there from SDQ airport.

Would prefer to have a private driver, just to get me to las terranas and then back to SDQ. Anyone know of any?
I mean for 2 trips i would be willing to pay a good amount. How much do you think that would be?

If not would a cab do it? If so how much would that be?

Thanks for the help.
I speak a little spanish, but not too much, but am looking forward to the beaches, food and releaxing.

It is 6000 or 7000 pesos from the Capital\
your hotel in LT should be able to arrange a cab to come down and pick you up at the airport.

Annie's right-- $180 US each way -- My (Spanish and English-speaking) manager can meet you at SDQ for the same price, and he won't expect a tip! :) Just send me a PM for his email address--
