Anyone have experience shipping an auto from the DR to US?
Costs? Limitations? Recommendation for reliable shipper?

WHY??? Unless it's an antique... and even then... the cost of the shipping would make it better to just sell there, and buy another in the U.S.

Normally you can sell a car here for about 130-150% of the value of the same car in U.S. Unless it's really unique... sell here, take the cash, & replace it in the U.S. for the same or newer model.

Happy to sell to you for 130% what I paid.

Wanna buy a 2005 Toyota Rav 4 in excellent condition for 130% what I paid for it 2.5 years ago?

You miss the point.

The same vehicle in the DR is worth at least 40+% more here than in the states.

Unless you're emotionally attached to it, sell it here and buy the same vehicle in the states with a few $thousand left in your pocket...not even factoring in the extreme hassles in shipping, customs, etc...

It's a no-brainer.

I agree with Cobraboy.

Unless this is a rare or unusual vehicle, or you want to have it rebuilt in the States, it makes no sense to ship it back

Rav 4s have great re-sale value here. Sell it here and buy one there.

Dude, a 2005 RAV4 here in DR, asking price is about RD$550,000 to RD$600,000 (US$13750-$15000) on supercarros.
A 2005 RAV4 in US asking price is about $10,000 at cars.com. As I said, you can sell for 30-50% more here and replace it with probably a 2007 or 2008 model in U.S.

However, with your attitude and inability to follow logic... I'd suggest shipping it UPS ground transport.

Attitude?

To Silver: it would seem that you are the one with an attitude and a non-rational mind. I was merely seeking advice. I got from several people (without attitude) and did not respond in any way that would lead a reasonable person to think that I am unable to follow logic. Have a look in the mirror, dude!

The gasoline in DR is not great and not the same quality as in the states so get rid of that tieto lol
You can buy the same model in the states for less and sell that one at a high price in DR. With the extra money you can upgrade the wheels on your new vehicle.

Felipe, if the car was manufacutured outside of the states and was never in service in the states you will have a hassle to clear it through US Customs. Consider this, US law require it to be mechanically fitted to conform with US environmental standards at entry port. If not, it will be held under Customs authority and will not be cleared until retrofitted with the proper devices. You will be responsible for all storage and warehousing costs during its time under Customs control.
