Finally, some good news from the beaten-down junior mining sector.
A small junior called GoldQuest Mining Corp. had investors cheering on Thursday as its shares jumped 313% because of results from a super drill hole in the Dominican Republic. More than 20 million GoldQuest shares changed hands, an almost unheard-of number for a junior on the TSX Venture Exchange these days.
During the heady days of the commodity boom, price spikes like this were a frequent event when a junior miner put out positive results. But as global economic volatility increased and investors lost their appetite for risky stocks, juniors have struggled to get any attention. Many of them are hoarding their cash and simply trying to survive the tough times.

That made the bump in GoldQuest shares all the more impressive. The Toronto-based company said its intersected 231 metres grading 2.4 grams per tonne of gold and 0.44% copper at its Las Tres Palmas project.
?It?s an amazing hole,? chief executive Julio Espaillat said in an interview. However, he cautioned that this is a new discovery and not much is known about it yet. ?We have more questions than answers right now,? he added.
GoldQuest has been working on this project for a few years, but this discovery is to the north of its other work in the area. The company will begin a drilling campaign focused around this discovery. Las Tres Palmas is in a little-explored section of the Dominican, and is not on the same gold trend as the giant Pueblo Viejo project controlled by Barrick Gold Corp. and Goldcorp Inc.

Thanks Pichardo! GoldQuest has been a penny stock for years. Back to the 30 to 40 cent range it was 4 years ago. Keep on pumping all that is Dominican.

I am trying to track down an ETF that consists of companies that supply all "printing related" products for the Central Banks around the world.

So you're saying that's peanuts in the stock market?????

Nope, I am not meaning to say anything, I am just saying that 313% sounds better than 22 cents rise.

Edited: yes in a way it's peanuts, 100 million shares at 22 cents difference, that's 22 million... compared to 2.5 billion Facebook shares that dropped 5 dollars, that's over 12 billion ...

Pichardo:

Perhaps RH meant you are paying peanuts.....and getting exactly what you are paying for.

I know, I know...313%.....you will be rich....and its only 40 cents, right?

First, Pichardo a little primer on the TSE (Toronto Stock exchange). Lots and lots of "junior" gold mining companies listed there....and lots of them in the penny stock category....and lots and lots of them are subject to something called "pump and dump.' And, if you really really read carefully your posted piece it is a classic PR piece and not a lot more. Could they have found a mother lode of gold....absolutely.... but I think 40 cents says it all. Nevertheless, you can make money if you are on the right side of the trade....but the pumpers and dumpers work hard at quickly getting the spin out and then just as quickly head for the exits.

Just remember the running joke from junior mine operators as to the definiton of a gold mine...."A hole in the ground surrounded by liars."

If you really want to own a real gold mining company with real gold assets both in the DR and elsewhere, then look at Barrick (ABX) with a dividend yield of 2%. Of course because they have, and extract real gold, the market price of $40.00 per share reflects that.

Expat13:

There is an ETF for almost everything....but I am not aware of one that is that narrowly defined.

You're preaching to the Pope! I have plenty of stocks and securities to fill books with since I was old enough to have my own bank account...

Penny stocks are NOT chump change, by any means or to even dare compare to a soon to go bust IPO from Facebook based on nothing more than ad sales... Many stocks that today command hefty demands, started in the penny stocks in the gold biz...

Well then, Good Luck your holiness. Can you name any of those penny stocks in the gold biz that are now medium/major players i.e.,...Barrick, Newmont, etc.?

Penny stocks are not chump change...but they are mostly for chumps.

Remember awhile back, about a cell phone company headquartered in Florida and coming into the DR in a "big" way. First there was the PR splash about entering the DR. Then the PR splash about lookin for office space in Higuey. Then about searching for land for cell towers. Then about negotiating a deal to lease that space....they have some pretty good writers....but no earnings....last I remember that stock was at .0008 per share.

There are exceptions to every rule. The problem is having enough money left when that exception arrives. Sorry Pichardo, but you have better odds on red or black at the casino.
