this post is useless

would you care to elucidate? why is it useless? actually, there are some of us who believe that the idea has some serious merit. a guy who gets 1200 dollars per month in social security will live 10 times better in the DR than he will do in Boise Idaho. just the weather , alone, will add 5 years to his, or her, life.

And the quality of healthcare might subtract 10.

Once there is decent medical service that's either highly affordable or covered by one's home country social services/insurance, perhaps the north coast can be considered a retirement haven.

Until then, dream on. It's only for those in good health and/or those willing to risk dying from something that would have been treatable in a first world country.

Are you talking about retirees on very limited incomes or upscale tourists?

What do you expect for retirees with an income of US$ 1200 or less that doesn't already exist? That is a lot

more than a large percentage of the Dominican population has to spend for housing, food, etc.

Have you considered the possibility that the Dominican Republic doesn't want to attract large numbers of people with no more than US$1200/month to spend for all purposes? Or, maybe better said, why would the Dominican Republic want to attract large numbers of these people?

Sweet dream but only sweet dream

Some groups including mine have looked into the matter thoroughly, and the main setback is bureaucracy in the countries of origin as well as in the Dominican Republic.

Example of setbacks in the countries of origin: won't certify the DR retirement homes without due diligence (read wine and dine at the expense of the promoter), without personnel trained and licensed in country of origin, will cancel medicare after 6 months of residence in DR, won't reimburse the meds and so on and so forth.

Setbacks in DR: over and above the regular corruption related issues, won't let foreign professionals provide services, will force the residents to get a cedula and residency every 2,3 or 4 years, and won't license the facilities without wining and, oh sorry, due diligence.

So, indeed, if you're rich and in good health, buy a condo near a clinic.

If average Joe with health issues, your rear-end will keep getting frozen 5 months out of the year.
It'd be easier founding a new country on some island and get recognition.

the law of the rich..

Try it sometime when you only get $1200 a month to make a living, in USA!! There are many people who have worked all their lives with this amount as pension benefit. They have (like you said) 10 times better life in the DR..is it useless...to help these people to settle in DR???.:ermm:

Brilliant idea you know why people retire in Florida? It's not only the cost of living but the main reason is the weather, cold and cloudy places tend to make people feel depressed study shows that the countries with less sun seem to have the highest suicide rate per capita i.e Sweden, Russia, Finland etc. On the other hand; the Dominican Republic has perfect weather almost all year round, easy access to medical facilities and equipment since it is close to Florida (Medical equipment) and Cuba (Medical staff) in case of an emergency. During the last decade medical tourism has surged as people look elsewhere to get more bang for their bucks especially in the case of Plastic Surgery a key destination is Brazil since it cost less than having the same procedure done in the United States for less they could even spend 2 weeks recovering after surgery at some resort for the same price or equivalent to what they would pay to have it done by some Plastic Surgery firm in Beverly Hills, CA . Dude all this needs to work is the rite marketing as well as networking if anyone can prepare a business plan with a 5 year forecast send me a proposal via e-mail i can get you the rite people to fund such a project :chinese:
